The Field Engineer - Generator diagnostics leads the on-site diagnostic activities. Generator inspections and diagnostics are carried out in close cooperation with the back office, the engineering team and the remote support team. The Field Engineer is also entrusted with electrical and mechanical diagnostic work on the generator as well as monitoring repair work on the generator. He will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to technically complex problems, and resolve problems through immediate action or short-term planning.
The Field Engineer is responsible for the generator diagnosis, which mainly consists of electrical tests, visual inspections and inspections carried out with robotic systems.
Further responsibilities of the field engineer include planning, organizing, integrating and managing tools and materials required to complete the scope of work in accordance with the contractual requirements. He will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of technical complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning. The field engineer implements and executes the work under safety, environmental and quality policies, serving as an example for others and provide full and active commitment in the deployment of the EHS and quality policies.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ability and willingness to travel worldwide, work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments
- Diagnostics on the generator such as visual inspections and electrical tests on stators, rotors and other electrical components
- Perform robotic inspections and high voltage tests on generators
- Troubleshooting of electrical systems
- Plan, organize, integrate and direct labor and tool and material allocation
- Provide technical expertise to customers, service support, field technicians and operators
- Support in planning diagnostic activities and carrying out diagnosis on site
- Ensure contractual obligations are met
- Attend technical meetings with customers
- Provide timely and accurate internal and external reports.
- Loop-check and adjustment of analogue, binary and other measurements
- Adjustment of instrumentation
- Recommissioning of air-cooled and H2-cooled generators
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Drive customer satisfaction through commitment to quality
- Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards

Required Qualifications
- Technical/University degree or qualifying experience OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a Field Services Controls role
- Solid understanding of electrical test methods
- Solid understanding of generator operations and processes.
- Strong technical competency in reading and interpreting circuit diagrams and technical requirements sheets
- Extensive travel to and from projects and various field assignments will be required
- Ability to work independently
- Polish knowledge is a plus
- English proficiency required
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge and skill to actively support field service activities and be aware of where to seek answers to questions as they arise.
- Experience in a field service or generator diagnostics
- Knowledge of generator design and /or electrical test methods
- Analytic, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
