Job Description Summary

Leader of the Global Nuclear Fuel - Americas Fuel Manufacturing Operations (FMO) Quality organization, including a team of 17 employees. In this role, you will be responsible for effectively leading, developing and managing the FMO Production Quality Team. FMO is focused on the manufacture of fuel pellet material, fuel pellets, fuel rods, and the assembly into nuclear fuel bundles.

Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.

Roles and Responsibilities

The FMO Production Quality Manager has overall responsibility to develop, maintain and execute quality programs designed to ensure FMO products and processes meet all required standards and customer quality expectations. In this position, you will lead a team responsible for implementation of quality activities to achieve compliance, qualify special processes, and execute process improvements. Additionally, this position frequently interacts directly with our customers. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement, and communicate quality strategy for the FMO team, including:
  • Quality Surveillance Controller Team.
  • FMO Quality Records.
  • FMO Bundle Assembly Inspection team.
  • FMO Quality Engineering Team.
  • Be responsible for quality activities, including planning and execution elements for all contractual, US and international quality obligations.
  • Lead team in implementing processes to ensure quality control for all projects and production. Assure released products reliably meet all requirements (quality and regulatory).
  • Provide oversight for product / process qualifications, including review and approval of quality documents, plans and procedures.
  • Work seamlessly with operations, engineering, P&L business teams, support functions, and partners to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage operating budget to support overall business objectives.
  • Represent FMO in customer and regulatory audits / visits.
  • Help develop and drive the culture of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and a strong Nuclear Safety Culture throughout the organization. Visible leader and participant in robust continuous improvement and observation programs.
  • Ensure ongoing evolution of training, self-assessments, surveillance and observation programs to maximize workforce capability.
  • Implement Statistical Process Controls, Quality at the Source and Mistake Proofing methods as needed to prevent quality problems.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators and provide status reports and recommended actions.
  • Conduct Effectiveness Reviews, ensuring timely completions. Support internal quality audits.
  • Promote a working environment that encourages employee involvement to achieve excellence in compliance, product quality and efficient operations. Promote team morale, diversity, involvement/ownership, and skills development.
  • Champion positive employee relations. Foster employee engagement and ensure that business goals are effectively communicated to employees. Support talent development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a quality, technical, manufacturing, operations, or nuclear services role.
  • Minimum 1 year supervisory or managerial experience in manufacturing environment or military.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.
  • For Controlled Access Area: must be able to successfully pass a Nuclear Safety Training Test; follow strict radiation protection, criticality, and industrial safety regulations; wear protective clothing to enter the area.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Desired Characteristics

  • MS in relevant science or engineering field.
  • Domain expertise on quality system requirements, preferably in the nuclear industry (10CFR50, Appendix B; NQA-1; and 10CFR21).
  • Experience interacting with leadership at customer and/or regulatory organizations. Ability to connect in an authentic, meaningful way with customers and other external constituents.
  • Experience working with a certified nuclear quality management system.
  • Quality Control or Quality Assurance position.
  • Proven record of accomplishment driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to influence stakeholders and build trust with customers, managers and team members.
  • Strong operating background. Ability to sift through complex information and focus on the critical few priorities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and effectively interact with all levels of management to resolve issues that cross organizational boundaries.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes).
  • Manufacturing quality, production and/or engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook).
  • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing certification. Practical experience with identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes based on Lean.
  • GE Program graduate, e.g., OMLP, EEDP (GE employees only).

The base pay range for this position is $112K - $160K. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 5/21/25.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
