Principal Engineers are recognised technical leaders within GE Vernova who deliver deep expertise in their specialised domains, driving high-impact solutions and guiding major projects from concept to implementation.

Principal Engineers engage across functions, working closely with Consulting Engineers, the Chief Engineer's Office, and business leaders to ensure technical excellence and competitive advantage in GE Vernova's offerings.

In this role, you are are relied upon to provide advanced engineering judgment, mentor senior engineers, and contribute to developing technical strategies.

You will play a pivotal role in advancing technology within their discipline, shaping engineering best practices, contributing to industry standards, and ensuring that projects meet or exceed quality, cost, and performance expectations.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a recognised subject-matter expert in FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) technologies, providing technical leadership across R&D, product development, and project execution.
  • Lead complex engineering projects from concept to delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic business goals.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute elements of the FACTS technology roadmap in collaboration with senior technical leadership.
  • Contribute to and support participation in industry standards bodies (IEC, CIGRE, IEEE) and technical working groups.
  • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and methods for potential integration into GE Vernova's product portfolio.
  • Support the development and enforcement of engineering standards, guidelines, and design practices within the FACTS domain.
  • Provide advanced technical guidance in AC power system planning, stability analysis, and FACTS application engineering.
  • Oversee and validate simulation, modeling, and analysis for FACTS planning and design (PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD).
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering technical skill growth and supporting succession planning.
  • Support Intellectual Property (IP) efforts, including contributing to patents and ensuring compliance with freedom-to-operate requirements.
  • Act as a key technical resource for commercial, supply chain, and quality teams, ensuring technical risks are mitigated and opportunities maximized.
  • Lead or participate in root cause analyses for major quality issues, recommending corrective actions and improvements.
  • Support training material development and deliver selected technical training sessions in own domain.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master's degree or higher in electrical engineering, power systems, or related field, with emphasis on power electronics or FACTS applications.
  • Significant engineering experience in power system planning, stability studies, and FACTS technology application.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects with measurable business impact.
  • Familiarity with national and international grid codes, regulatory frameworks, and FACTS market dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of IP creation and management.
  • Proficiency with major simulation tools for FACTS studies.
  • Willingness to travel for technical meetings, site visits, and industry engagements.

Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following:

  • FACTS control and protection strategies.
  • Main circuit design and hardware.
  • System stability and mitigation of instabilities.
  • Integration of grid-forming and energy storage concepts into FACTS solutions.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Significant problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical depth and business considerations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to influence stakeholders across multiple levels of the organisation.
  • Recognised as a trusted authority in the FACTS engineering community.
