GE Vernova's Advanced Research business is the central innovation engine for GE's portfolio of energy businesses, which will be unified under one banner called GE Vernova. The research organization is made up of 250+ researchers representing virtually every major scientific and engineering discipline. Collectively, they are driving major research programs and initiatives to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and promote electrification and the creation of a 21st century grid fit to power a zero-carbon energy future.

The Facilities Operations Director will be responsible for delivering on the muti-year buildout of the Vernova Advanced Research Center along with its full life cycle management, including EHS, security & critical research projects. The mission of the Vernova Advanced Research Center is to not only deliver R&D advancements for the energy transition, but to serve as a hub for customers, investors, and collaborators fostering the expansive network needed to deliver on Vernova's mission. The role will include oversight of the significant renovation on the current Niskayuna R&D site , new builds in the neighboring Vernova campus starting with the scale up of our Direct Air Capture technology, and driving the facility needs to enable research. The site is located on the Niskayuna campus which is currently home to over 250 Vernova researchers. The Facilities Operations Director leads a team to deliver the outcomes needed to push the limits of science and technology for GE Vernova and their customers and maintain the infrastructure of the facility.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Lead the multi-year buildout of the Vernova Advanced Research Center
  • Lead a team of EHS, security & facilities projects personnel & partners providing site support
  • Drive team engagement focused on execution in support of research
  • Lead the relationship with partners and service providers
  • Effectively collaborate with the site senior leadership team to plan for future facility requirements, lab and office space enhancements, and evolving project and technology needs
  • Communicate appropriate information on projects & issues to stakeholders, including tracking financials to budget
  • Plan and execute major capital projects for infrastructure including managing contractors working across multiple sites
  • Create and apply facilities standards across the site to ensure a safe, compliant work environment, leveraging trends in the industry to modernize facilities
  • Oversee project implementation and management, including special projects as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in facilities and/or construction management or an Associate's degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience in facilities and/or construction management or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 14 years of experience in facilities and/or construction management
  • Experience working in broad industrial or academic research/engineering environments
  • Working knowledge of building mechanical/electrical systems
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments while working autonomously under tight timelines
  • Flexibility to work off hours and manage emergencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including organizational and project management

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

The salary range for this position is $180,000-$350,000 US dollars annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
