Job Description

The Executive Director - Engineering Technology, North America will provide technical engineering and leadership to support the North American Power Conversion and Storage (PCS) business segment. This role is integral in supporting the growth of the $1B North American business. The role will oversee a 100+ person organization that provides MV drives control, power system studies, power electronics, and full integration of system capabilities. This position reports directly to the North American General Manager. Responsibilities include overseeing project engineering, identification of strategic new product introductions, product lifecycle planning, and effective engineering demand forecasting, from offer and sales through the Services life span. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to set the engineering strategy, develop and grow a strong technical team, optimize engineering processes, solve problems, and execute upon set objectives. This role owns/influences budgets and operating plans and is guided by operating policy. Collaboration with cross functional and global teams is critical.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES:

  • The role is both operational and strategic, demanding transformational leadership, to develop and coordinate plans for the engineering and product development in PCS North America. Responsible for building a strong engineering organization, creating new business opportunities, analyzing challenges and leading the technical execution of complex projects.
  • Drive product innovation to strengthen the region's technical autonomy by creating the technology roadmap for building a world-class products and solutions, including electric machines, power electronics, switchgears, software, and overall systems design capability.
  • Execute projects with great customer engagement and trust. Translate concepts, consider strategic options, develop tactics, and implement change. Create programs responsive to external environment. Participate in cross-functional business activities and cultural development.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with Sales, Operations, and Manufacturing teams to ensure smooth project delivery. Given the high level of customization of PCS offerings, this role is highly accountable for the financial performance of the region.
  • Drive growth of the NAM region through a sound organizational structure, product innovation, technology injections, as well as operational efficiency through tools and processes in the areas of power electronics, control and automation, power systems, switchgears and electrical systems engineering.
  • Evaluate opportunities for additional standardization of offerings and components both locally and in conjunction with global engineering teams in order to drive productivity and efficiency.
  • Leverage the GE Vernova network to drive product innovation, participating in the execution of key ongoing technology programs, working closely with Advanced Research Center and other PCS regional engineering teams.
  • Drive team performance to meet aggressive time and cost demands from our customers. Provides guidance, leadership, mentoring and intervention, as necessary, to strengthen the discipline, quality, reliability, and rigor of our engineering work. Has the proven ability to identify, motivate and retain strong technical talent.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent disciplines.
  • 15 years of experience in medium-voltage electrical system development for industrial processes and / or grids or comparable electrical system and solution development experience.
  • 8 years of technical leadership or management experience leading large teams.
