Job Description Summary
The Electric Motor Engineer will be responsible for electrical motor requirements and collaboration with suppliers on design within the Pitch and Yaw team. The engineer in the Pitch and Yaw system section is responsible for the definition of the requirements and acceptance criteria for the pitch and yaw motor within the Onshore and Offshore wind turbine platforms. Which includes being responsible for trade-off studies, customer and field support, engineering changes and design releases, loads assessment, bill of material creation and maintenance, validation always achieving the excellence in terms of safety and quality. You will work cross functionally with colleagues across the global pitch and yaw team, with the technical leader, principal engineer as well as sourcing, validation and quality teams. i) ensure safety and quality excellence: completion of all hardware releases, leading design changes; seeking most cost-effective and schedule-effective solutions.
ii) lead the product life cycle of the component: with a deep knowledge of the component, leads the trade-off studies and design of the component completing all the releases associated to the project and entire lifecycle of motor component (3D models, 2D drawings, loads assessment, bill of material, parts releases, configuration of the parts, and final approvals).
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Leading:
- Manage design releases and change processes. Engineering Changes Requests & Enterprise Change Orders and integration into the rotor.
- Evaluate, select, and apply appropriate electronic technology and components.
- Full ownership and accountability for design, development, perform specific loads assessment, testing (vibration, thermal, ingress protection, etc.) and certification (component & turbine compliance) of appointed component
- Lifecycle support (including certification) from development to manufacturing to product manufacturing sunset. Respond to manufacturing requests (NCR/SDR) & fleet (PAC) request.
- Testing and Validation -In a cost-effective manner, selects, develops, document and directs the execution of a physical test (e.g., components, external systems) utilizing instrumentation as needed, to understand the design, validate design/analysis, or demonstrate conformance to requirements
- Perform Engineering Excellence and provide innovative design solutions to deliver world class in Safety and Quality
- Interface with Pitch Engineering team on system questions to interface with Mechanical, 3D model integration, Electrical, Firmware and PCBA Circuit Card teams. Build a knowledge of the pitch system role within a Wind Turbine and which requirements are applicable.
- Operation:
- Self-management of daily operations to achieve on time priorities scheduled with the technical leader. Accountable of design component deliverables.
- Periodic data monitoring, analysis, and review from testing and/or operating Wind turbines.
- Advocate "test and learn" culture while reviewing validation results from: GE Labs, GE Prototypes, Vendor facility testing and Wind Turbine sites.
- Work closely with internal customers, fleet support teams, and systems engineering on fleet issues and improvement determinations
- Deliverables:
- Coordinate with Product Definition Engineering (PDE) team to produce high quality manufacturing and assembly documentation; 3D / 2D drawings, electrical schematics and technical specifications for accuracy prior to release
- Ensure quality of deliverables, on time delivery, design cost, DFMEA, performance, availability, weight and general targets defined by the business related to the component.
- Support:
- Work with cross-functions (services, manufacturing, suppliers, systems, sourcing, program management) to ensure robust development of component
- Work with internal and external test labs to drive validation strategy of component requirements
- As a component owner to apply design practices, standards, new methods or tools according to company process to ensure safety and quality of the product.
- Support should-cost assessments and support cost optimization efforts with suppliers to meet component cost targets at component level
- Assist with supplier qualifications including supplier visit for FPQ or to support quality lead audit.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) programs to mitigate weaknesses in the design.
- Supporting Quality Engineers during the Qualification and Frozen Process Changes Qualifications, as well as different quality issues that could arise
- Supporting Field Engineers on the resolutions of relevant issues that could be happening on the field
- Ensure lessons learned are promptly incorporated into design
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or related discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years proven technology and/or engineering experience in motor or in similar position.

- Experience in conducting Motor specs definition and validation
- Electrical and Mechanical knowledge on AC (Permanent Magnets Synchronous Motors) and DC Compound Motors
- Electromechanical Brakes and Encoders / Resolvers
- Shaft voltages and devices to avoid them (Grounding Brushes)
- Motor control methods and associated hardware
- Knowledge of relevant industry Standards and applicable Design Codes (e.g. IEC/UL 61800-5-1, IEC 60034 and IEC-60721 series)
- Skilled in mechanical and electrical component design calculations, specifications and schematics.
- Product-Life Cycle-Management (PLM) expertise
- Demonstrated system thinking: ability to assess tradeoffs, effectively assess risk, and optimize results.
- Able to understand electrical schematics
- Knowledge and application of electro-mechanical components in power conversion applications
- Able to work independently
- Business acumen and customer focus.
- Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across stakeholders to influence outcomes
- Strong interpersonal skills including: ownership, self-motivated, problem solving, analytical, team player, communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to develop relationships
