EHS Engineer - Ergonomist

Job Description Summary

The Environment, Health, and Safety Engineer - Ergonomist is responsible for partnering with team to ensure compliance with environmental health & safety standards and regulations and improve ergonomic and safety programs.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure EHS milestones are completed and accounted for when equipment and processes are introduced and changed to improved controls of risks to health, safety, and environment
  • Perform ergonomics risk assessments and facilitate the design of feasible solutions such that human performance risk is reduced
  • Evaluate, amend, and set into place manufacturing work standards and instructions to ensure good ergonomics work practices
  • Conduct post-injury analysis to determine contributing factors, recommend controls to address the contributing factors by following the hierarchy of controls, and recommend changes in policies, procedures, work environment, and equipment to adequately address factors that contribute to injuries
  • Lead, mentor, and train the employee ergonomics council to drive ergonomic improvements
  • Develop warm-up and stretching exercise programs by position type that help to target the muscles that the employees utilize during the day
  • Keep functional job profiles up to date
  • Lead and maintain EHS programs, procedures, practices, licenses, permits, and site-specific EHS documentation, records and plans to assure compliance with local regulation and business requirements (OSHA, Internal policies, and standards, etc.)
  • Analyze trends and performance, provide routine feedback, and drive actions to improve performance
  • Assure good standing and action plans with GE's Environmental Health & Safety Framework, piloting external contractors or vendors as needed
  • Interface with environmental, health and safety regulatory agencies as needed
  • Execute required actions to implement and operationalize a sustainable EHS management system
  • Partner with site leadership and global EHS team to manage site EHS compliance activities (inspections, training, monitoring, sampling, PPE, etc.)
  • Drive EHS compliance and programs effectiveness through audits, process / equipment reviews and site inspections
  • Collaborate with Production and other teams to implement programs to include change management and drive a proactive and positive safety culture

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational environment, health and/or safety or engineering from an accredited university (or a high school diploma/GED and at least 4 years of EHS experience in manufacturing environment)
  • Minimum of 3 years of EHS with ergonomics focus experience in a manufacturing environment

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to work any shift, flexible hours, and weekends

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Associate Ergonomics Professional (AEP) certification through the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE) or equivalent work experienced
  • Experience with GE EHS management systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft office tools and eager to learn new IT EHS reporting tools (Gensuite, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and tools to help improve site safety performance
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and organization
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Established project management skills
  • Demonstrated leader and respectful team player
  • Hands-on experience with implementing projects and sustaining process improvements
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/priorities and deliver timely actions
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence and motivate others
  • Willingness and ability to learn from others and listen with intent
