Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Gas Power HD Services Design Engineering is looking for a Design Engineer (m/f/d) Electrical Systems for gas turbine power plants and combined cycle power plants (CCPPs).
You will be a critical part of the entire project lifecycle from initial scoping through design and field installation, support, and validation.
As a Design Engineer you will work closely with the Power Services project engineering team and customers to learn about existing gas turbine power plants and develop solutions that bring significant value to the customers and the PS business via Conversions, Modifications, and Upgrades (CM&Us) and NPIs. In this role, you will work on design, development and provides support to the global fleet of GE Heavy Duty Gas Turbines for accessory systems and related Balance of Plant equipment to improve upon reliability, performance, emission, efficiency and safety. Projects vary from small electrical system upgrades to repowering entire gas turbine generator set with latest proven technology. In this role you will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Understand the GE Gas Turbine components and overall project requirements
  • Ensure integration of the new systems in the existing Power Plant
  • Act as team member of the offer team (Application Engineering) and/or the project execution team (Requisition Engineering) for complex GT or CCPP CM&U projects
  • Ensure all drawings and bill of material structures are matching contract requirements in relation to the electrical systems scope of work.
  • Solve difficult technical challenges
  • Coordinate with interfacing organizations such as manufacturing, sourcing, services, global engineering, advanced technologies and systems engineering
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
  • Document design work clearly and meticulously
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to support resolution of field installation and customer issues
  • Assume responsibility for process and safety engineering within the project team for CM&U and NPI projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Basic knowledge on Power plant components and its functioning
  • Familiarity with main electrical equipment including generator breakers, excitation system, starting system, transformers and power plant relay and protection schemes
  • Demonstrated understanding of sizing of electrical equipment LV, MV & interconnect cables, as well as required hardware integration
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of applicable national and international codes / Standards / directives such as IEC, NEC, CSA, IECEx, ATEX etc.

Desired Characteristics

  • Relevant experience in the Power Industry, ideally field services, electrical engineering or in a similar position
  • Site knowledge and experience with installation and trouble shooting of electrical equipment
  • Ability to remain focused even in challenging situations
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • Fluent in written and spoken German
