Job Description Summary

The Customer Application/Design Engineer will be responsible for the coordination of all technical aspects of the ITO (Inquiry To Order) phase of tender preparation and proposal development for the GE Power Conversion business offerings in ANZ. This includes technical scope development, cost estimation, risk management, bid preparation and issue resolution for tenders to which they are allocated, along with interfacing with the Commercial & Sourcing teams.
Additionally, the role will involve design engineering as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team within global system engineering organization. Working on power conversion and automation/control projects to ensure the design meets customer, budget, schedule, contract, and regulatory requirements.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Your broad technical experience within rail, mining, power quality, marine or utility will be useful when anticipating the needs of customers by providing practical solutions to achieve customer satisfaction. In addition to this, you will also be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Design and deliver proposals with optimised technical solutions (configuration, performance and cost competitive). Ensure accuracy & compliance to customer requirements & specifications/standards, while adhering to the GE Power Conversion business strategy and processes.
  • Works in close cooperation with customers, regional sales and commercial proposal team to increase market penetration through technical support during pre-sales stage where required. Provides engineering support to GE sales and after sales teams.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of GE Power Conversion product lines, technical solutions, markets and customer requirements. Able to promote the business value proposition.
  • Participation in meetings and presenting technical solutions and options to relevant stakeholders and customers. Support the development of engineering estimates and bill of materials.
  • Provide technical clarification to customers, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure the efficient delivery of tenders. Preparation of technical specifications for RFP and evaluation of supplier responses. Checking supplier equipment General Arrangement drawings to ensure compliance to customer specifications.
  • Support continuous development of GE's products based on evolving codes and standards and contribute to the development of new tools and improvement of existing tools used by the team.
  • Has the necessary technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • Produce designs, specifications and documentation for systems and supporting equipment, including generators, switchboards, transformers, converters, motors, energy storage, cabling etc.

Required Qualifications

  • This role requires a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with good knowledge of the tendering process as well as advanced experience in the preparation of complex proposal documents and developing technical customer solutions. Possesses a good understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies.
  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree from accredited college / university in Electrical Engineering or Electronic or Instrumentation Engineering
  • Possess at least 7 to 10years' experience in a similar role within rail, power, utilities, offshore oil & gas, defense, Naval and/or marine sectors
  • Draw on their excellent communication skills, to manage and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Technical knowledge on Industrial Power Conversion equipment like converters, transformers, generators, switchboards, motors, energy storage, cabling etc.
  • Experience in design engineering or field engineering
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
