Job Description Summary

As Technology Leader for Critical Infrastructure Communications (CIC) at GE Grid Solutions, you will be leading the R&D team responsible for industrial grade wired and wireless communications products including Wireless, Optical (SONET/MPLS-TP), Switches, Teleprotection and Power Line Carrier. CIC is seeking a highly motivated R&D Leader who is a technical, strategic thinker, result-oriented and good communicator.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage high-performing global teams, focused on innovation, new product design/development, product sustainment and cost-out.
  • Within the scope of the R&D activity, develop and implement operational processes ensuring achievement of objectives, repeatable processes, and continuous improvement.
  • Work with Product Management to develop Multi-Generational Product Plans based on the strategic direction of the business, ensuring that it supports business alignment, increased profitability, and provides a sound, flexible foundation for rapid future growth.
  • Develop, maintain and communicate a set of operating indicators reflecting the activity and quality of the R&D organization.
  • Develop a platform vision and detailed NPI requirements for new product platforms (architectures, packaging, electronics and software) to lower the costs of the R&D activity.
  • Plan and execute New Product Introductions on-time, to specification, and at or below budgeted costs.
  • Support Supply Chain and Service teams in technical issues regarding the manufacture and support of these products and drive cost-out & quality improvements.
  • Manage Technology Organization - Staffing, Budgeting, Employee Engagement - and CIC R&D sites including labs.
  • Support Commercial and Product management teams on bids/proposals and product marketing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 12 years' experience in product design, development, and technical management
  • Must be authorized to work in the US

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate & empower others
  • Proven ability to manage projects and manage competing priorities
  • Knowledge of Telecommunication and Industrial markets including Oil and Gas and Electric Utilities
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma, Design for Reliability and New Product Introduction processes
  • Lean expertise
  • Familiarity with SAFe/Agile product development practices
  • Ability to influence and gain commitment at all organizational levels and across functions
  • Experience communicating with executives and senior leaders
  • Experience communicating voice of customer to the broader organization
  • Extensive background in the development of communication products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge base of global product compliance (IEEE, FCC, CE)
