GE Vernova's Power Conversion Division provides Electrical power conversion systems for various renewables, industry, marine, and Oil & Gas applications. Typical scope includes MV & LV drives, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.
The Automation Controls Engineer's role would be to develop system solutions in function block programming. In this role you will be responsible for major and complex project execution with long-term business implications, provide technical support to sales and customers, developing of software, and hardware solutions, while following the completed and tested design to the field for installation.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined project teams to assist in the delivery of automation systems, ensuring alignment with customer and project requirements.
  • Develop proficiency in steel rolling, cranes, energy management systems, and test bench PLC automation.
  • Provide support in the commissioning of new hardware and software automation products, with occasional travel required.
  • Contribute to the assurance that all system and component designs meet specified requirements, including cybersecurity measures.
  • Assist in specifying technical solutions through the preparation of technical documentation, and actively participate in the programming, validation, and commissioning of automation systems.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering groups, actively participating in collaborative efforts, and engaging with customers directly.
  • Contribute to the identification and management of technical risks on projects, working towards effective mitigation plans.
  • Provide support, updates, and troubleshooting for existing automation and drive systems in production.
  • Contribute to the development of application control software for complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric equipment using PLC software packages, such as Function Block and Ladder Logic design.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience or similar schooling.
  • Proficient English and Portuguese language communication and technical writing skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the field of automation engineering.

Desired Characteristics

  • Exposure to function block and ladder programming environments for industry PLCs.
  • Basic knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards applicable to automation and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of PID and PI control theory, AC and DC drives and motors, hydraulic & pneumatic systems, and general PC configuration.
  • Exposure to PLC programming packages such as P80i, GEMCAD, S7, RsLogix, CodeSys, etc.
  • Exposure to SCADA packages such as Wonderware Archestra, iFix, Cimplicity, Proficy Machine Edition, Citect, etc.
  • Interest in industrial or marine automation industry.
