Aeroderivative Performance & Operability Engineer

5 days ago Bangalore, India

Job Description Summary

The Aeroderivative Performance & Operability Engineering team is a critical pillar within the Aeroderivative Engineering organization, operating at the intersection of engineering, commercial, and digital domains. The team covers project execution and model development for aspects related to performance (thermodynamic cycle models) and operability (including emissions, fuel flexibility, and controls).

As a Performance Engineer focused on cycle modeling, you will provide essential leadership by developing, maintaining, and executing thermodynamic cycle models using industry-standard tools like NPSS (Numerical Propulsion System Simulation). You will work alongside experienced engineers to build the foundation of your career in gas turbine performance engineering while contributing to critical projects that power industries worldwide.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute Cycle Model Development: Run thermodynamic cycle models using NPSS and related simulation platforms to support various engineering analyses and customer deliverables.
  • Drive Model Validation: Validate cycle models against data, performing statistical analysis to quantify differences, and identifying root causes when discrepancies arise between predicted and measured performance.
  • Learn and Apply Thermodynamic Principles: Develop expertise in gas turbine thermodynamics, performance characteristics, and the modeling methodologies that drive our business decisions.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with ITR (sales support), OTR (project execution), and methods development engineers to understand requirements and deliver accurate models.
  • Develop Data Processing Skills: Build proficiency in data science techniques for engineering applications-including data cleaning, filtering, correlation analysis, and visualization-to support model validation and status-matching efforts.
  • Contribute to Process Improvement: As you gain experience, identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve model accuracy, and enhance team efficiency.
  • Develop Technical Skills: Build proficiency in NPSS, Python, and other engineering tools through hands-on work and mentorship from senior team members.

Desired Characteristics

  • Curious & Eager to Learn: You're genuinely excited to dive deep into complex gas turbine systems and simulation tools. You ask "why" and "how" because you want to truly understand-not just follow steps. The idea of becoming a subject matter expert in performance engineering energizes you.
  • Detail-Oriented Problem Solver: You love working with data, making the numbers align perfectly, and troubleshooting when they don't. You're methodical and persistent-when something doesn't match, you see it as an engaging puzzle to solve.
  • Collaborative & Impact-Driven: You thrive working with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, bringing fresh ideas while learning from others. You want your work to matter-and you're motivated knowing your models will guide real turbines in the field.
