We are currently seeking a Lead API Engineer to join the Digital Transformation team at GeoBlue. This position reports to the Director, IT Architecture & Digital Transformation team and is a hybrid office position. Occasional visits to the corporate office in King of Prussia, PA are available to those who are local to the area. The budgeted salary is $130,000 - $135,000 with a 10% target bonus opportunity.

The Lead API Engineer will oversee the design, development, and lifecycle management of all APIs across the organization. This role provides technical leadership to a small team of developers and ensures the delivery of secure, scalable, and well-documented APIs that support internal systems and external integrations. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in API development using Microsoft technologies, including Azure and .NET, and a strong understanding of API governance, performance optimization, and developer experience.
The Lead API Engineer encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities spanning API architecture, development, and lifecycle management. They will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the organization's API infrastructure to facilitate robust integrations and digital services. Drawing upon their expertise in API engineering, they will lead the development of scalable API solutions, ensuring seamless communication between systems and services.
They will also be responsible for establishing API standards, documentation practices, and governance frameworks that align with business objectives. This includes defining security protocols, versioning strategies, and performance benchmarks to ensure the reliability and scalability of APIs.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture, development, and maintenance of RESTful APIs and microservices
- Define and enforce API standards, versioning strategies, and documentation practices
- Manage the full API lifecycle including design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and retirement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand integration needs and deliver robust API solutions
- Ensure APIs are secure, scalable, and performant, implementing best practices for authentication, authorization, and rate limiting
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of API documentation using tools like Swagger/OpenAPI
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for API deployment and testing
- Monitor API usage and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues
- Mentor and guide API developers, fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in API development and integration
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field plus at least 4 years of hands-on experience in API development and integration
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft technologies including Azure, .NET Core, and C#
- Experience with Azure API Management, Azure Functions, and Logic Apps
- Familiarity with REST, GraphQL, and SOAP protocol.
- Knowledge of API security standards (OAuth2, JWT, etc.)
- Experience with API testing tools (Postman, SoapUI) and monitoring tools (App Insights, Azure Monitor)
- Strong understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to lead and mentor a team of developers
