HR Operational Specialist

We're looking for an HR Operational Specialist with the focus on Payroll to join our HR Operations team. This is not a finance-driven payroll role instead, you'll focus on the human side of payroll, making sure employees are paid correctly, on time, and in line with Dutch labor laws. You'll also play a key role in identifying payroll-related issues through employee interactions and ensuring all payroll mutations are processed smoothly.

The Role

As an HR Operational Specialist, you'll spend around 60% of your time managing payroll for employees across multiple countries, with a primary focus on the Netherlands. You'll work closely with internal finance partners, external payroll providers, internal HR teams, and employees to ensure payroll is accurate, compliant, and seamless. The rest of your time will be spent supporting your HR Operations colleagues, stepping in during absences and contributing to HR-related processes and projects.

You'll also have the chance to optimize and automate HR payroll processes, driving and enhancing the overall experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring all payroll mutations (such as salary changes, benefits adjustments, and leave registrations) are processed correctly and on time.
• Keeping an eye out for payroll-related issues by proactively listening to employees and resolving concerns as they arise.
• Manage and execute payroll operations with a primary focus on the Dutch payroll.
• Being flexible around payroll deadlines, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
• Partner with HR and external payroll providers to ensure seamless payroll administration.
• Support your HR Operations team as needed, especially during absences or peak periods.
• Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives within payroll and broader HR operations.

Requirements

• Fluency in Dutch and English (both written and spoken), this is essential!
• 2+ years of experience in HR Operations, preferably with exposure to payroll processes in an HR environment.
• A keen eye for detail you catch mistakes before they become problems.
• A strong understanding of Dutch payroll processes and labor law, or a strong willingness to learn.
• Experience with Workday and Cobra, or similar HR/payroll systems is a plus.
• A proactive, solution-orientated mindset, you don't just process payroll, you improve it!
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
