Description

Builds, runs, and interprets results from various thermal models of varying complexity from a single component to complex powertrains to full vehicle simulations. Performs Propulsion focused CFD simulations under various load cases to lead the design of the Propulsion system and its components. Performs Vehicle level CFD simulations to lead the design of the vehicle for under-hood and underbody thermal management and cabin comfort. Works on future vehicle and propulsion programs with a focus on process efficiency and innovation. Proactively develops CFD simulations for new programs based on propulsion and vehicle content and functional objectives. Works closely with Propulsion Program Management Teams (PMT), Thermal/HVAC Development Engineers, and Design Release Engineers to communicate simulation results and make design recommendations. Executes multiple 'what if' simulations to guide the design process. Makes design recommendations that may include material changes, component relocation, addition of shields, redirection of airflow, etc. Fully engages in vehicle and powertrain development activity and proactively take ownership of simulation activity to best guide the design team. Participates in the Thermal Development Performance Integration Teams (PIT) meetings. Uses the Compartment Integration Teams (CIT) and Product Development Teams (PDT) to drive issues to resolution. Works with suppliers in developing virtual modeling methods to support passenger thermal comfort activities. Supports internal teams by developing new physics based analytical tools to eliminate physical testing. Develops new methods to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the current 3D and 1D modeling procedure. Develops 1D models for different vehicles to support SIL for calibration and refrigeration system sizing purposes. Conducts 3D DOE studies in HEEDS to generate response surfaces and neural network models for supporting GT suite 1D model development activities. Conduct MDO studies to optimize HVAC airflow strategy. Works with the energy team in developing cabin energy models related to solar load, HVAC energy etc. Posts process the human comfort thermal mannequin test data for CFD analysis correlation. Coordinates and supports AI/ML development activities for 3D and 1D passenger thermal comfort methods development. Hybrid Work - 3 Days In-office, 2 Days Remote - Must be able to report to local office.

Requirements:

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field of study. Three (3) years of experience as a Thermal Engineer, Application Support Engineer, or related role. OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field of study. Five (5) years of experience as a Thermal Engineer, Application Support Engineer, or related role. Must have three (3) years of experience with: CFD and Heat transfer simulation software, including STAR-CCM+; CAD software, including Teamcenter and UG-NX; Thermal Development, Design, and Release for Automotive Systems; Developing process automation scripts using Python and JAVA for workflow optimization; and Conducting CAD parametrization studies using NX CAD for HVAC component assemblies.
