The Role
We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate to join our team in our journey of defining and executing our next generation Vehicle Electrical Architecture. The Embedded Platform Infrastructure Systems Engineering organization is looking for a System Engineer that will lead the development of Ethernet Architecture utilized by all GM's platforms.
As a Staff System Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and coaching the team in developing the most efficient and optimal in-vehicle Ethernet architecture by aligning strategies, stakeholders, designs, and delivering a product that exceeds our customers' expectations.

What You'll Do
- Champion enterprise in-vehicle Ethernet communication strategy and roadmap.
- Design and develop in-vehicle Ethernet systems, including network architecture, topology, and communication protocols across all layers of the OSI model.
- Lead functional decomposition and interface definition and DFMEA for Ethernet system functions.
- Lead development of configuration and optimization of Ethernet networks and security settings.
- Lead testing and validation initiatives to ensure proper functionality and performance.
- Support hardware teams on the selection of Ethernet hardware components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of Ethernet systems into the overall vehicle architecture.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, network diagrams, test plans, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide people leadership and technical mentoring to other team members and promote a team environment that values the backgrounds, opinions, and ideas of everyone.
- Lead team to continuously improve processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry standards, protocols, and trends related to in-vehicle Ethernet systems and drive industry standardization via chair roles at IEEE, SAE, OPEN Alliance, etc.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or related experience.
- Ten or more years of experience planning, designing, and implementing complex computer networks.
- Expert level knowledge of computer networking protocols, network architecture, and communication standards.
- Experience with network simulation and analysis tools, programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python), and software development for embedded systems.
- Knowledge and experience with network automation.
- Advanced understanding of network troubleshooting tools.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle and testing methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts at a basic level.
- Excellent teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with peers, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders.
- Experience with cross-functional leadership across product and program teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs, and solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to ideate, formulate and execute winning technical strategies and innovations.
- Evidence of mentoring and developing others into technical experts.
- Evidence of data-based decision making.
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or related experience.
- Engineering and Embedded Software Systems, with a focus on in-vehicle networking and Ethernet systems.
- Ten or more years of experience working with Electrical architectures.
- Proven history of designing and implementing IEEE TSN Standards.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
- Design for Six Sigma Black Belt.
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR software concepts and implementation.
