The Role
We are the Vehicle Experiences Engine team, or VEE for short. We build software engines for digital vehicle experiences that are as fast, reliable, and affordable as the legendary LS Engines at the heart of our most powerful cars. We own, build, and maintain software engines that drive delightful in-vehicles experiences enabling GM to win today and tomorrow. Our engines will be as hardware agnostic as possible allowing us to rapidly adopt new hardware platforms and allow our internal partners to use our engine on any hardware platform.

Our Team is seeking an experienced software manager to join our team to lead on high-compute System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms.
What You'll Do
- Leads, guides and directs a large group of technical employees responsible for engineering deliverables in support of the organization's business objectives.
- Manages engineering execution of team as related to the Vehicle Development Process deliverables.
- Provides technical leadership to work team. Interacts and collaborates with many teams cross-functionally.
- Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures.
- Leads team to meet targets.
- Reviews and approves engineering documentation, e.g. requirements, documents.
- Hiring: Identifies & leads staffing initiatives for work team.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field-or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development.
- 2+ years of team leadership or people management experience.
- Experience in safety-critical software development with exposure to ASIL B and ASIL D standards (preferably in the automotive or industrial domain)
- Solid understanding of embedded hardware architectures, including processors, memory management, and peripherals
- Experience in Linux-based embedded operating systems
- Knowledge of communication protocols like CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, etc
- Experience deploying commercial embedded systems
- Familiarity with ARM architectures
- Demonstrated ability to understand the tech stack, debug code and tests
- Enthusiastic about the opportunity of impacting the engineering culture from the bottom up

- Conducts regularly scheduled Group Meetings, Communicates GM Policies & Procedures, Leadership and Safety Messages.
- Creates and communicates vision & strategies specific to functional responsibilities. May include preparing and giving presentations.

- Insures employees complete all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility.
- Understands & supports employee's career development goals. Develops and executes initiatives to improve work team capability and increase work team capacity.
ASSIGNING WORK:
- Assigns and manages workload for direct reports. Sets individual employee and group priorities.
MONITORING & APPROVING GM RECORDS:
- Reviews and approves employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and other work-related data.
EVALUATING PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIORS:
- Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback. Conducts performance interventions when necessary.
RECOGNITION:
- Formally & informally recognizes employee's contributions.
- Provides timely and consistent feedback to direct employee's as appropriate.
- Participates in compensation planning and administers compensation treatment.
REMOVING ROADBLOCKS & RESOLVING ISSUES/COMPLAINTS:
- Observes and steps up to remove roadblocks and resolve potential issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Compensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.
- The salary range for this role is 195,200 to 298,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
