Senior Systems Engineer - Manufacturing Plant Floor Monitoring

Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Austin Innovation Center or the Michigan IT Innovation Center three times per week, at minimum.
The Team:
Our Software Development team supports the creation and enhancement of some of the industry's most innovative and complex systems. This team develops and delivers software solutions to GM Manufacturing business partners. Members of this team include industry-leading developers, architects, and designers who use various innovative development methodologies and technologies to successfully deliver solutions, drive business results, and increase customer satisfaction.
The Role:
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible to design, development and support applications used for Plant Floor Monitoring & Control at GM Manufacturing plants. The person needs to have strong business and technical acumen to understand complex manufacturing systems, evaluate, identify, recommend and implement the solutions that can best improve current applications implementations with COTS integrations to bring business benefits.

What You'll Do:
- Design, develop, and support applications for Plant Floor Monitoring & Control in GM Manufacturing.
- Lead QA strategy and execution for SCADA software systems, ensuring robust testing of plant floor monitoring and control applications.
- Promote test-driven development practices to help ensure software meets rigorous QA standards.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites using Selenium or similar frameworks.
- Create and manage QA dashboards and status reports using JIRA or Azure DevOps.
- Collaborate on environment management, validation, and automation efforts.
- Partner with reporting teams to support data integration and reporting solutions.
- Develop and maintain SQL Server databases and reporting tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software issues in both new and legacy systems.
- Participate in on-call production support and be available during off-hours or holidays for planned manufacturing downtime.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GM standards and best practices.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or Computer Science
- 8+ years of professional experience in software development
- 5+ years of experience with .NET, C#
- Experience with SQL Server and database development
- Experience in Industrial IT systems and manufacturing environments
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GE Cimplicity
- Experience with Selenium or similar test automation frameworks
- Experience with GitHub Actions
- Experience with QA reporting and dashboarding in JIRA or Azure DevOps
- Experience leading QA efforts in SCADA or industrial control systems
- Ability to mentor and train others in QA methodologies and best practices
- Exposure to reporting tools and data visualization
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift VM orchestration
