Description

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role

The Vehicle Update Service (VUS) team is responsible for GM's Over-the-Air (OTA) software delivery platform. Our vision is to create a unified, seamless channel that keeps every GM vehicle up to date-continuously improving the customer experience without unnecessary interruptions to their daily lives.

The team leads the development and operation of the Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA ) backend platform, which powers the end-to-end process of campaign execution, orchestration, delivery, and monitoring for OTA software updates.

What You'll Do

  • Understand complex technical platform through independent analysis, provide new ideas and solutions for enhancing the platform.
  • Understands business requirements and architectural solutions, come up with detailed technical design that involves database schema design, flow sequences, interface and API specifications between different components.
  • Break down business features into stories with required technical and business details and come up with realistic estimates for stories and features.
  • Document detailed design for the team to understand and follow during implementation.
  • Champion non-functional requirements such as code quality, test coverage, performance, scalability, and security.
  • Take the lead in conducting peer code reviews and pull request approvals, serving as the team's gatekeeper to ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Drive the adoption of development processes and technical standards, taking ownership of their implementation and ensuring team-wide compliance.
  • Technically savvy to know the technical trends, advocates industry best practices for development lifecycle and consistently drives improvements for the team.
  • Collaborates very well within the dev team, Product management team, architecture team, other stake holders and user community for understanding and deriving solutions that work.
  • Design, implement and deliver high quality technical solutions on time for business problems by gathering all the necessary details needed from different stake holders.
  • Helps, guide, and mentor other team members in their day-to-day activities and plays a key role for the team to meet their commitments.
  • Possesses deep and comprehensive knowledge of the platform, conducts thorough impact analysis of changes, and leads the integration of system components across cross-functional Scrum teams.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, working on complex and scalable platforms.
  • Strong understanding of microservices, REST APIs, event driven architecture and performance optimization techniques.
  • Hands on in developing Java & Springboot-based components.
  • Experience with Java, Spring boot & related tech stack, Spring Cloud, REST, KAFKA, JMS, Oracle, and Postgres
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in core technologies of software engineering, so they may effectively assess the quality of contributions.
  • Strong understanding of software development process and best practices.
  • Demonstrated strength in technical communication, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience in a cloud-native environment.
  • Experience developing 12-factor microservices.
  • Solid understanding of cloud computing concepts and experience with cloud platforms like Cloud Foundry, Azure.
  • Angular with latest version 16/18, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Junit.
  • Developing UI screens and integration with back end APIs.

Compensation : The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

  • The salary range for this role is$134,000 to $241,900. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.


  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
