The Role:
We are reshaping software and controls in the automotive industry, transforming into a technology-based company, and this role is pivotal to that change. We seek highly energetic and creative professionals with a strong technical foundation.
The ideal individual will work effectively within a high-performance team to lead our technology transformation in advanced controls and software, bridging production and motorsports software tech transfer.
Responsibilities include developing new and advanced control systems for future vehicles using technologies like eAWD, eLSD, Active aerodynamics, and Rear steer.
Our software development strategy aims to apply these innovations across a broad range of platforms, starting with future performance hyper-cars. This role requires expertise in control strategies and the ability to communicate complex technical topics to a diverse audience across various GM campuses.

Experience and knowledge of embedded controls and software development processes are crucial for success. Additionally, the role involves supporting and encouraging collaboration between motorsports and production teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and integration.
What You'll do:
- Development: Lead the development of advanced control systems and software with a team of specialists in ICE, electric propulsion, and other actuation systems.
- Initiatives: Drive new initiatives and contribute to the technology roadmap, collaborating with multiple teams to ensure viability.
- Mentorship: Provide technical coaching, development, and mentorship to team members.
- Innovation: Develop creative solutions and protect intellectual property through patents and publications (incentivized by GM).
- Project Management: Create and maintain project management plans, resource allocation, and timing requirements.
- Control Requirements: Champion control requirements from Simulink models and test cases.
- Efficiency: Continuously improve efficiency within the group by enhancing processes, quality, and mentoring members.
- Testing: Develop Hardware in the Loop (HIL) benches and vehicle test strategies.
- Peer Reviews: Conduct and support peer reviews.
- Root Cause Analysis: Lead and contribute to root cause analysis of control software issues during testing and validation.
- Collaboration: Support collaboration between motorsports and production teams.
- Compliance: Ensure work is completed according to milestones with excellence and compliance with GM processes and safety procedures.
- Travel: Approximately 10 weeks of travel per year, including winter testing in Northern Michigan and testing tracks in the US and internationally.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree
- 5-7 years of Python development experience with advanced skills for scripting and automation.
- Proficiency with at least one major templating engine: Mako, Jinja or Django.
- Proficiency with python-based GUI development, using Tkinter, PyQt or other GUI libraries.
- Solid experience with embedded C/C++, including device drivers, RTOS, or bare-metal development.
- Comfortable working with hardware interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO, etc.).
- Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, Docker, etc.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- Education: BS in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical (or equivalent)
- Control Systems: Extensive experience developing control systems and associated software (5+ years), and/or leadership thereof.
- Control Theory: Proficiency with control system theory and application to embedded systems, including state vector feedback control, adaptive control, and model predictive control.
- Vehicle Systems: Comprehensive knowledge of chassis vehicle systems and new energy vehicle architectures.
- Analytical Ability: High level of analytical ability to solve complex problems.
- Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Independence: Ability to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers globally.
- Driver's License: This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.

- Calibration Experience: 3+ years of calibration experience of vehicle dynamics systems.
- Programming: Experience with embedded C programming, Matlab/Simulink modeling, and code generation.

- Vehicle Dynamics: Working knowledge of vehicle dynamics and performance vehicle characteristics.
- Requirements Management: Proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA, etc.
- Product Release: Experience in automotive product release and specification process.
- Other Systems: Knowledge of other automotive systems (Powertrain, driveline, and CAN/LIN communication), advanced test setups (dSpace HiL, etc.), and vehicle track testing.
- Modeling: Experience with vehicle dynamics modeling and CarSim.
- Statistical Analysis: Experience with advanced statistical analysis, signal processing, filter design, optimization, system identification, and state estimation methods.
- Motorsports: Experience in motorsports (personal or professional).
