The Role
As the Safety Performance Integration Engineer, you will lead and execute development and validation of vehicle crash safety systems. You will:
- Hold responsibility for crashworthiness development of Post Crash Electrical Integrity (PCEI) for GM Vehicle Programs.
- Has knowledge and understanding of all aspects of PCEI
- Lead engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and project management throughout the vehicle development process.
- Synthesize physical and virtual test results with respect to safety technical requirements.
- Work with global teams in a collaborative environment.
- Provide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Lead high-difficulty projects and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Apply expert judgment to complex engineering challenges using advanced principles and innovative approaches.
- Implement GM Safety Standard Work to deliver high-quality models and simulations for PCEI evaluations.
- Conduct virtual and physical tests to ensure vehicle designs meet Global Safety requirements.
- Use advanced methods (DOE, DFSS, MDO) to optimize designs for safety and performance.
- Provide timely, effective design recommendations aligned with Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS).
- Collaborate cross-functionally to implement design changes and meet performance targets.
- Support physical safety testing at Milford Proving Grounds, including test execution, analysis, and CAE correlation.
- Perform LS-DYNA simulations for high-speed impact scenarios and variation studies.
- Lead PCEI Peer Reviews and present safety performance updates in relevant forums.
- Support PCEI bench testing and component level testing
- Mentor junior engineers, offering guidance on complex issues
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or Math
- 4 or more years of demonstrated proficiency with CAE or related engineering experience (DRE, validation, lab).
- Familiarity with electrical architecture and function
- Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt expeditiously
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
- High level of analytical ability to solve challenging problems and to integrate complex systems
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's or PhD in Engineering, Physics or Math
- Experience in virtual CAE and PCEI performance integration experience
- Working knowledge of CAE and Validation tools - training available in LS-DYNA, PRIMER, METAPOST, ANSA, HYPERWORKS, STIS and other CAE tools
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
- Working knowledge of Unigraphics, TeamCenter, and VisMockup preferred
