Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as on-site. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Japan Headquarter office in Tokyo, Japan full time.

The Role -

Accountable for all GM Japan's purchasing activities of Indirect (e.g. Marketing, IT, various services), Logistics (e.g. PDI center, parts distribution center, domestic vehicle distribution), local accessories and ACDelco products (Aftermarket parts mainly batteries) in accordance with Company's Purchasing Policy and GM Global GPSC related policies.
This position is expected to be Champion of the Company's Purchasing
Policy, and, at the same time, be responsible for achieving the best QSTP ( Quality, Service, Technology and Price) of goods and services. This position is not only involved in operational activities but also expected to take a managerial role.

What You'll Do -

  • Understand and implement GPSC policy & procedures, modify it to suit for actual business operation and take a lead to create new rules/ regulations if necessary, and within the scope of GPSC policies and procedures.
  • Set up sourcing strategies, evaluate supplier capabilities, nominate bidders, clarify proposals, negotiate business agreements and recommend the best supplier
  • Coordinate with internal requestors for clear scope of work, cost book, budgeting and overall sourcing direction
  • Follow up the entire business transaction with selected suppliers including invoicing and payment as necessary
  • Track supplier performance in quality, service & price, and take prompt and proper counter actions if required
  • Cooperate with Global Creativity Team (CT), Regional CT, and other GM units to assist overall purchasing activities for Indirect, Logistics, and ACDelco.
  • Lead, guide, train and support purchasing staffs in GM Japan
  • Supervise all the purchasing activities and be responsible for achieving all targets, including cost savings.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Ability to work effectively cross functionally, both internally and externally and build relationships
  • Indirect Purchasing experience for the areas mentioned above
  • Experience handling commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance
  • Proven competence in negotiating skills
  • Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and English
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word. In case of Excel, expected skills are : IF, VLOOKUP, SUM, Pivot table, conditional formatting, chart creation for data analysis.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Automotive industry experience
  • Solid knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes
  • IT skills : Excel Macros (VBA)
