In this role you will lead development of some of General Motor's most advanced and exciting mobility features. This dynamic role supports innovative technology development applicable to aspects of autonomous, electric, and traditional internal combustion applications in the following domain areas:

• Brakes
• Chassis-Suspension
• Diagnostics
• Drivability
• Drive Mode
• Electrified Propulsion
• High Voltage Battery
• ICE/Hybrid Propulsion and Emissions
• Propulsion Thermal Management
• Quality

This role supports ICE/Hybrid Propulsion in several functional areas, specifically Physical/Virtual Test Automation, Embedded Hardware Tools Development, Data Management, Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop activities.

The Role:

The Program Lead for the Simulation & Test Automation Team is an individual contributor who has knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the space and exercises independent discretion and judgment on significant matters based on professional knowledge. The Program Lead has expertise responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution. Agile, systems engineering, project management, requirements and embedded controls development and calibration knowledge are a definite plus. The drive and tenacity to grow technically and professionally while working on some of General Motor's most exciting features is a must! Follow/author documented procedures to calibrate systems to meet product goals, and provide feedback for continuous improvement

  • Understand the physics behind the plant/physical system and the implemented control methodology of all automation activities including support to long term vision of next gen strategies
  • Set Direction for Best Practices and Procedures
  • Assist in program issue resolution, including leading Global cross functional teams to arrive at enterprise level decisions
  • Lead development of calibration efficiency enhancements across all areas of product execution to provide a robust product and reduce reliance on physical assets (includes combining procedures/test scripts/data gathering activities, milestone deliverable updates, procedure cadencing definition/updates, ...)
  • Provide calibration input to the Agile Release Train Scrum teams during development of new software features/functions, including algo design and all calibration related standard work
  • Provide calibration input to the Agile Release Train or Advanced requirements development team during initial control system design
  • Leads the product focused development group and provides overall direction, process guidance, project priorities, identification of resources and assistance in roadblock elimination;
  • Leads execution and maintenance of Automation of Maneuvers and Calibration (AMAC) Program Development Test Plan template
  • Leads the AMAC/ Chassis Dyno Development Process (CDDP) Team & Weekly Forum;
  • Lead coordination of calibration activities in conjunction with the needs of ETC Vehicle Program Team / corresponding Cal Specialists, Vehicle System Engineer sub-system specialists, Technical Resource Board (TRB) Cal Tech Specialists, Hardware Technical Specialist and Design Release Engineering staff
  • Lead efforts to generate and implement ideas that provide cost savings, cost avoidance, and/or improvements to the quality and/or efficiency of calibration projects and processes
  • Manages all group projects w/TRB
  • Owns entire catalog of AMAC tests
  • Works with all ICE TRB's to identify opportunity then develop automated calibration procedures;
  • Manage project reporting, closure, and documentation
  • Lead in Road-Lab-Math initiatives to reduce testing
  • Partner with MPG Lab leadership to optimize personnel, site efficiency, and operations support
  • Project manage HiL/SiL activities of group
  • Project manage Data Management activities of group

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 6+ years of experience in one or more of the fields below

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, including independent judgment and decision-making skills, where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
  • Physics-based understanding of the Voice-of-Customer
  • Ability to effectively communicate issues, status and recommendations to leadership
  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
  • Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
  • Valid US Driver's License with ability to operate test vehicles

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Masters or PhD in Engineering
  • Experience related to specifying physics of dynamic electromechanical systems (e.g., Brakes, Chassis, Suspension, Electrification, Thermal, etc.)
  • Experience with calibration, software, and controls development
  • Experience with laboratory systems integration and specifically automation development
  • Experience leveraging simulation environments and plant modeling for testing or requirements generation is a plus (e.g., Matlab/Simulink, CarSim, GT-Power, D-Space, ETAS, etc.)
  • Experience with change management tools (e.g., IBM Rational Team Concert, Jira, etc.)
  • Experience with safety critical systems
