The Role
Join our ARC Solutions team and play a pivotal role in revolutionizing the way we optimize material flow across all our GM North America plants. As an ARC Solutions Planning Engineer, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities, selecting appropriate technologies, and supporting the initial implementation steps for ARC Solutions projects. Your mission is to collaborate with plants and other organizational units to implement efficient and lean material flow strategies, ensuring a seamless handover to deployment teams for project completion.
What You'll Do
As an ARC Solutions Planning Engineer, you will be at the forefront of redefining material flow processes within General Motors. You will have several sites to support as the main contact and your responsibilities include:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate material automation opportunities.
- Develop roadmaps for your assigned sites, identify technologies to be utilized by application, document and communicate automation enablers, and establish a cadence that will enable success.
- Collaborate with plants to understand their unique needs and challenges related to material flow.
- Select appropriate technologies and solutions to enhance material flow efficiency.
- Support the initial deployment steps, including procurement, technical reviews, IT setup, layout planning and others in support of the deployment team.
- Collaborate with deployment teams for a smooth handover of projects.
- Manage and support ARC Solutions projects, ensuring alignment with plant needs and overall corporate objectives.
- Conduct site visits to manufacturing facilities to assess material flow processes and identify improvement opportunities.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed manufacturing innovation and automation projects.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product development, manufacturing operations, deployment teams and IT to ensure seamless integration of new technologies and processes.
- Provide technical support and assistance to manufacturing and maintenance teams during the implementation phase.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and training sessions for plant personnel in collaboration with the different vendors.
- Work directly with plant partners, plant and corporate safety teams, solution engineers, vendors and/or internal teams to achieve development of material automation initiatives from drawing board/concept to reality/shop floor.
- Work directly with containerization, logistics and other GPSC partner to resolve critical issues and put key enablers in place for the successful deployment of material automation initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of implemented solutions, identifying areas for further improvement and optimization.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 3+ years of professional experience in manufacturing supply chain.
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing, supply chain, and assembly processes.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making in manufacturing systems and throughput optimization.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, FactoryCAD, and equivalent CAD tools, with hands-on experience in layout design, process flow modeling, and digital factory visualization.
- Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, capable of translating complex simulation results into actionable insights for cross-functional engineering teams
- Demonstrated leadership in technical project management, including resource coordination, milestone tracking, and stakeholder reporting across manufacturing and engineering domains.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (ME, Supply Chain, Industrial) or equivalent experience.
