Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
This 8th Level position must be able to work autonomously and will be leading a team of exceptionally talented process engineers. Skilled in paint process control, equipment and tooling alternatives, the candidate will drive improvements in sequence and flow of operations for the efficient and effective utilization of personnel, machines, materials, and facilities necessary for Paint Shop operations. Work performed with hourly employees, production and skilled trades team members, salaried employees, and 3rd party support organizations. This Process Engineering LeadContinuous Improvement position will involve training others and assigning work to a team of process engineers. This role will be responsible for major and minor process control improvements and continuous improvement activities. The position requires sharp analytical skills, leadership expertise, and a deep understanding of paint shop manufacturing processes.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement, grounded in Global Manufacturing System principles, and aligned with GM's core behaviors.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in a dynamic manufacturing paint shop environment through collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, and 3rd party organizations.
- Deliver measurable improvements in throughput and quality achieving production targets while reducing downtime and rework.
- Lead, coach, and train teams of salaried, hourly and 3rd party employees in paint processes, quality standards, and equipment utilization.
- Ability to translate strategic goals into actionable engineering initiatives.
- Promote and implement lean manufacturing solutions to drive operational efficiency and reduce process variation.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Development and testing of advanced process technology with detailed feedback to central process champions.
Requirements:
- Minimum BS in Engineering or 7+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, with emphasis on paint shop operations
- Proficient in Paint Process Control operations and processes
- Deep understanding of the continuous improvement process
- Able to lead a highly technical innovative team.
- Extensive experience in automotive manufacturing, particularly in paint operations.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of lean manufacturing systems
