Description
Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site in Pontiac, Michigan five days per week.
Travel is minimal and primarily related to validating critical dyno-based development work during track testing. Weekday or weekend off-shift support may be required on a limited basis to meet the needs of the program and to work around the schedule of high-demand test facilities.
The Role
We are seeking a Motorsports Propulsion Hardware Development Engineer to support propulsion hardware development activities for GM's exciting Corvette GT3 racing program. You'll work closely with the Senior Hardware Development Engineer, design team, machine shop, supplier base, and engine build team to help develop, prioritize, and implement performance, efficiency, and reliability improvements with first-time quality. Your creativity, initiative, and high level of independent judgment are key to your success.

Joining the Sports Car Propulsion Team will provide you with the opportunity to showcase and develop your skills through challenging individual and collaborative development activities - ultimately helping our Corvette GT3 teams succeed on race day.
What You'll Do
- Support hardware development, failure analysis, issue tracking and resolution activities
- Work and communicate closely with the Senior Hardware Development Engineer regarding development and quality initiatives
- Collaborate with internal and external design resources for part design and issue resolution
- Employ internal design tools to assist in the development of new or revised hardware
- Utilize analytical tools and methods to help identify and prioritize hardware improvements and performance gains
- Gather and summarize propulsion system data to feed into simulation and analytical tools to improve model correlation fidelity
- Work with the Engine Build and Quality departments to assure the first-time quality of internal and external supply chains
- Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products related to assigned program
- Support the specification, instrumentation, setup, troubleshooting, and results reporting for engine development tests
- Identify and implement hardware development process efficiency improvements
- Collaborate with multiple GM groups and partners supporting Sports Car racing programs
- Participate in program meetings with key internal and external stakeholders

Additional Description
What You'll Need (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 3+ years of engineering experience following the completion of a degree
- Strong understanding of the principles of operation of internal combustion engines
- Knowledge of propulsion hardware development and validation
- Ability to balance multiple projects efficiently, including prioritization and working to tight deadlines
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to navigate relationships with internal and external partners
- Ability to present data clearly and concisely
- High proficiency in problem solving, methodically identifying and resolving issue root causes
- Enthusiasm to learn both independently and from others, share knowledge, and contribute to a collective knowledge base
- Exceptional work ethic and integrity
- Ability to travel 5% of the time within the U.S

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Motorsports experience is preferred; Collegiate programs such as Formula SAE or personal hobby engagement are considered acceptable experience
- Engine design knowledge including material properties, fabrication methods, sealing and fastening, and other areas necessary to optimize the efficiency, performance, quality, reliability, and durability of race engines
- Experience collecting engine dynamometer data
- Experience with engine combustion analysis techniques
- Experience with engine design and analytical tools (Team Center, CAD, FEA, CFD. GT Power)
- Knowledge of traditional and additive manufacturing technologies and methods
