The Role:

The Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) team in GM's Software and Services organization is at the core of vehicle control-developing the software and calibrations that orchestrate everything from internal combustion engines and hybrid drive units to body controls software ( Seating, Lighting, Vehicle Access, Occupant Protection and Occupant Comfort). Our mission is to continuously invent and refine how the world's best mechatronic systems are controlled.

We are seeking an Engineering Group Manager to lead a team focused on Seating software. In this role, you will lead a team of talented engineers in developing & delivering various customer facing seating features with innovative solutions in partnership with suppliers. You and your team will work cross-functionally across product, program, and systems partners to ensure robust integration and delivery of high-quality, production-ready software that supports both our current portfolio and our all-electric future. You will own the outcome to enhance customer comfort.

What You'll do:

  • Enable self-organizing, self-managing teams to deliver product on-time with quality executions in an agile environment
  • Implement quality software development practices and develop/own high-quality software.
  • Help remove impediments and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement
  • Implement and support agile principles and practices, identifying and eliminating impediments, and facilitating flow
  • Develop high performing team by practicing GM values & behaviors
  • Lead and manage supplier & GM strategic partner software deliverables to program timelines
  • Lead timely resolution of product quality issues (e.g. PRTSs) to ensure launch quality
  • Implement process improvement for product quality enhancement
  • Hire, Mentor, coach, and develop employees and their careers
  • Establish and monitor budget for responsible activities
  • Execute resource planning for required activities
  • Model and foster GM's Core Values and Winning Behaviors
  • Support cross functional Key Strategic Initiatives

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Mathematics.
  • Minimum 10+ years of engineering experience related to embedded control system & Software development experience.
  • Demonstrated technical background in Body controls (Seats, Cabin Comfort, Lights, Vehicle Access etc.)
  • Highly skilled & hands on experience in embedded controls software development & related tool set - (e.g. AUTOSAR software, developing & debugging physics-based C code, Jira, GIT Ecosystem, etc.)
  • Demonstrated results in successful project execution
  • Excellent multi-functional communication and leadership skills - able to get multiple teams moving in the same direction
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity while driving timely decision making

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

  • Master of Science in Engineering and/or Master of Business Administration
  • Master of Science in Electrical, Computer, Electronics, Mechatronics, Systems or Software Engineering with emphasis in Controls or Robotics
  • Prior work experience in Body Controls domain
  • Experience in embedded controls development software and tool sets - (e.g. C/C++, Python, Jira, Git ecosystem, MatLab/Simulink, ETAS INCA)
  • Leadership experience developing or utilizing industry standards & software architecture (e.g. AUTOSAR) and agile methodologies (e.g. CICD)
  • Leadership experience in safety compliance of embedded systems
  • Leadership of teams of engineers responsible for developing or testing embedded control systems or related hardware in an agile environment
  • Demonstrated ability to: achieve results through effective teamwork, lead numerous projects with different focal areas to successful completion, and manage and measure work through metrics, data, and results
  • Experience in doing SFMEA, DFMEA and other systems engineering approach for product quality.
