Description

As a Senior Product Engineer, you will be responsible for leading product development and integration activities. Responsibilities include utilizing engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and systems for vehicle programs.

Effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and rigorous program management. You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program deliverables with perfection.

At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management.
As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.

Additional Description

This position requires sound technical knowledge and expertise related to the functional area of responsibility. You will need prior experience and/or knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, testing, analysis, and manufacturing/production. The SME Translates business objectives, product design intent to actionable work for the work group while leading new processes and methods in line with departmental goals.

Relies on extensive experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs multiple tasks. Showcase a wide range of creativity and latitude. Complex assignments require originality, creativity, and a wider application of principles, theories, and concepts. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Addresses the broadest and most complex problems of multiple disciplines within the business unit or division.

Additionally, the role provides technical leadership and guides the team to successful execution of low voltage Lithium Ion battery programs; develops new products, processes, standards, or operational plans in support of the organization's business strategies with a direct impact on business and/or function overall results. You will also influence others within the organization to adopt new concepts, practices, and approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Battery Cell Leadership: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. Develop technical requirements for battery cells and controls to meet performance requirements. Set, implement and maintain Best Value BOM Row Strategic roadmaps: Identify Technology Gaps and Recommend Innovation Projects. Lead, execute, and coordinate analysis capability development initiatives, with emphasis on development and validation virtualizations. Integrate new processes and methods into Standard Work
  • Technical Execution: Build and develop products with high quality. Meet the requirements for Battery performance and reliability. Develop and translate DFMEAs into virtual analysis test cases. Apply learnings by conducting effective global read-across for all issues to prevent further issues and develop improved Testing. Be a change agent to enable hardware reduction initiatives. Work with leadership, lab partners, and program management teams Technical Specialists to identify gaps and priorities for analysis growth. Own analysis Standard Work procedures
  • Project Management: Oversee sprint planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring that projects are completed on time with high velocity. Provide technical support to design responsible and development/validation engineers. Provide guidance on global regulatory compliance. Develop Bill of Process (BOP) and Bill of Equipment (BOE) including lessons learned feedback and program deviation evaluations. Participate as a team member in core technical forums (including PMTs) and component technical reviews on new designs/major redesigns as technical expert to ensure success, and monitor global BOD/BOM/BOP compatibility
  • Architectural Design: Drive the architectural design of innovative Lithium Ion Battery cells and controls solutions, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to meet industry standards and exceed customer expectations.
  • Product Development: Collaborate closely with the TS, DREs, SSLEs, Safety, and Systems/Architecture TS to define product features and requirements, ensuring alignment with GM's strategic goals and customer needs. Lead team through complicated engineering discussions balancing cost, manufacturing, and quality metrics. Participates as a leader or co-leader in the Low Voltage Center of Expertise (COE). Participates in the warranty reduction/quality improvement process in order to assure lessons learned are captured and included in global Bill of Design/Bill of Material
  • Team Development: Exhibiting GM behaviors that consistently deliver high-quality results. Provide training in new and existing procedures. Hardware Subject Matter Expert. Supports all integration issues. Ensures the team achieves results by providing technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, safety, architecture, analysis, and strategy, to ensure a seamless product development process. Interface with other virtual groups to establish common processes. Interface with Analysis Engineers, product release teams, Technical Specialists, and suppliers to develop optimal design solutions that meet requirements.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team. Bring Industry benchmarking to leadership on Lithium Ion and other new technologies. Develop Analysis, Development, and Validation (A/D/V & VCRI) plan and lead the execution of various activities under the plan, complete test reports and archive data after test. Integrate use of analysis where possible in development, thus reducing hardware dependencies
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, technical documentation, and project plans. Seek out state of the art tools and methods and maintain a benchmark of industry capability and trends. Lead analysis support for urgent product issue resolution. Communicate status and technical assessments to team members through meetings and reports
  • Adhere to all Safety Precautions and Requirements and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in electrification systems
  • 2+ years of experience in Design Release Engineering
  • Good understanding of automotive electrical architectures
  • 2+ years of Battery hardware Design & Development
  • Ability to read, interpret, and generate engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with CAD or CAE
  • Experience with coordination and leading projects
  • Technical writing ability to create written engineering evaluation reports
  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize work and resources and lead indirectly

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.
