Lead, GM Defense Customer Engagement & Marketing

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A fully qualified individual contributor will have proven ability to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels to plan, resource, and execute customer engagement events at GM Defense locations (especially Milford Proving Ground), GM locations (e.g. Warren Tech Center), and at other field locations (e.g. field activations) as needed. While significant experience with GM marketing and customer engagement teams and resources is critical, previous experience with defense/government is preferred but not required.
This individual must have excellent organizational skills and able to advise and coordinate cross-functional teams of peers and superiors in a dynamic, fast paced, and demanding business environment. This individual will apply expertise to lead and execute a wide range of marketing and customer engagement tasks, with a self-starter attitude, willing to "roll up the sleeves" with an "it's on me" mentality to meet tight opportunity deadlines. The Lead, Customer Engagement (Warren/MPG) is responsible for managing and coordinating a wide range of customer engagement and experiential marketing activities associated with and executed at Warren Technical Center, Milford Proving ground and other locations in the greater Detroit area that are critical for customer engagement, opportunity development, and long-term growth of GM Defense to include:
Customer Engagement Event Coordination
- Customer-Centric Events : Partner with internal teams and external vendors to plan and execute impactful customer-and product-focused events that support GM Defense opportunity development and strategic engagement.
- On-Site Event Planning & Coordination at Detroit Area Facilities: Serve as the lead point person for on-site GM Defense customer engagement events at Warren Technical Center, Milford Proving Ground, and other Detroit area GM locations to ensure seamless coordination of event setup, staffing support, product placement, leadership awareness, branding, and customer experience.
- Event Protocol Management: Establish and refine event protocols to ensure high-quality execution, professionalism, and consistency across all activations.
Customer Engagement Resource Management
- Resource Management & Tracking: Coordination of management, maintenance and tracking of GS&S resources at MPG and Warren Tech Center (marketing vehicles, etc.)
- Cost Development & Estimation: Development of cost estimates for customer engagement activities based on historical data, quotes, and other available info
Product Experience Support
- Activation Coordination & Execution Management: Lead coordination for design and execution of activations that include static display of GMD products to highlight GMD products and their relationship with GM products and brands
- Product Placement: Support coordination of placement opportunities to increase visibility of GMD products, such as event activations, movie/show inclusion, etc
- Ride & Drive Event Support: Planning and coordination of dynamic product experiences (ride & drive, demonstrations, etc.) at Milford Proving Ground, Warren, and other Detroit-area GM facilities
Customer Engagement & Marketing Support to Opportunity Development
- Support to Social Media Execution: Work closely with the GM Defense Communications team to design and execution of social media campaigns to emphasize key win themes for major GMD opportunities and capture campaigns
Apparel Management
- GS&S Apparel Management: Coordinate apparel for GS&S and key GMD personnel
- Marketing Apparel Management: Manage ordering and distribution of apparel and other items ("swag") to support GMD marketing activities (tradeshows, activations, etc.)
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in marketing, branding, event management, or customer engagement roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing product-focused experiential marketing or customer engagement events
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, manage execution and track resources for customer engagement projects
- Ability to travel up to 25% of time, including weekends
- Strong visual communications and presentation skills (e.g. PowerPoint, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of GM marketing capabilities, resources and processes (experiential, social/influencer, merchandizing, product placement, etc.)
- Strong understanding of branding principles and experiential marketing strategies required for successful customer engagement
- Experience in the automotive, defense, and/or security sectors
- Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).

- In-depth knowledge of GM products and services is a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical skills to measure event effectiveness and make data-driven improvements.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a track record of influencing and collaborating with diverse stakeholders for customer engagement.
- Previous experience with military and/or government marketing or customer engagement

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
The selected candidate will be required to travel < 25% for this role.
