Description
Hybrid: Reporting to a specific location where work needs to be performed / collaboration should happen (regardless this location is within a hub) and without regard to where a candidate lives (some employees may end up hybrid who live more than 50 miles away but where business needs dictate them to be onsite at a specific location three days per week).
- This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren GM Global Technical Center three times per week, at minimum.

About the role:
The Human Factors (HF) Program Engineer serves as a key resource within the Global Product Development organization, responsible for evaluating and ensuring compliance with HF-related requirements across new vehicle programs. This includes interpreting and applying HF criteria to vehicle designs, collecting and analyzing customer data to inform design decisions, and continuously refining best practices by incorporating updated criteria and insights.
The ideal candidate brings a strong passion for design and a deep sensitivity to customer needs and perceptions, ensuring that vehicle designs not only meet HF requirements but also deliver an intuitive and satisfying user experience.
What You'll Do:
- Initiate and maintain updates to the HF Scorecard for assigned programs; escalate and resolve issues as needed.
- Assess vehicle math data (NX/TcVIS) to support HF assessments.
- Utilize Human Modeling Tools (e.g., NX Human) to conduct HF assessments.
- Support all HF-related activities for assigned program(s) to ensure exceptional craftsmanship, world-class perceived quality, strong HF performance, and an engaging customer experience.
- Identify issues, develop solutions, and influence decision-making to support optimal customer experience.
- Serve as the Voice of the Customer liaison for the Studio during the Design phase, clearly communicating customer expectations and competitive benchmarks to help programs succeed in their markets.
- Leverage existing research (e.g., JD Power, Compass, Consumer Reports, internal studies) to drive continuous improvement in assigned vehicle programs.
- Collaborate daily with Design, Engineering, Quality, and Program teams to support program execution.
- Provide updates to executive leadership during POPs/VAPET, HF Escalation/Triage, HF Forum/APM meetings, and PQRRs.
- Partner with other engineering teams to understand user issues that require testing.
- Collaborate with the HF Usability team to define, plan, and schedule user clinics and surveys to address component or system-level concerns.
- Co-develop and publish HF Best Practices in conjunction with the Human Factors Tech Lead; identify and resolve conflicts among practices to ensure optimal user-centered design.
- Stay current on product trends and developments within your area of expertise, including knowledge of SAE recommended practices (e.g., reach curves, occupant positioning) and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., FMVSS, CMVSS).
- Build subject matter expertise in competitive automotive executions relevant to your assignment.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Work independently while effectively engaging with multiple stakeholders.
- Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to complex challenges.
- Ability to research and prepare clear, concise technical reports.

Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities Needed (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Factors, Engineering, User Experience or related
- 5+ years experience in Human Factors, Engineering, User Experience or related
- Experience applying HMI, Human Factors, Cognitive Design, or Ergonomics
- Proficiency with NX (or TcVIS, with the willingness to learn NX)
- Experience with Human Modeling Software (NX Human. RAMSIS, Jack)
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's degree
- Knowledge of the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP)
- Experience in design and execution of Human Factors Usability testing and analysis
- Experience working in a lab environment, test instrumentation, part mock-up
- Rapid prototyping, including paper prototypes, software simulations and/or hardware simulations
- Working knowledge of statistical packages like Minitab for data analysis
- Preferred knowledge of SAE recommended practices (e.g., reach curves, occupant positioning) and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., FMVSS, CMVSS).

- The salary range for this role is $111,000 - $171,200 USD Annual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
