The Role:
The Chief of Staff will serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Global Public Policy Senior Executive leadership team, driving alignment across a dynamic portfolio of global initiatives, stakeholder engagements, and policy priorities. This role demands a high level of discretion, intellectual agility, and operational excellence to manage both strategic and tactical activities across senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GPP Operations Team that manages global function budget and headcount; senior executive engagement and briefings; GM political and industry affairs, including GM PAC and grassroots , lobbying disclosures, and trade association relationships; DC office operations; and special project support for GPP functions and events. Drives coordination and collaboration with GPP executive support staff to ensure seamless operational support of executives and other professional staff.
  • Serve as senior advisor to and proxy for Head of GPP on a range of business, policy, geopolitical issues, personnel management, and special projects representing GPP perspective on urgent and emerging issues throughout decision-making forums. Help to ensure transparency and alignment as appropriate on GPP Leadership Team decisions and direction.
  • Oversee annual GPP budget formulation and allocations, ensuring funds are spent in alignment with Operating Plan while avoiding overruns; liaising with Finance, HR and other functions to ensure good budget management.
  • Maintain oversight on GPP headcount to ensure adherence to allotted maximum and ensure hiring and retention address critical needs; partner with HR and GPP team leaders.
  • Lead creation and execution of annual GPP strategy and Operating Plan, ensuring alignment across global teams and that progress towards functional priorities drives GM's enterprise objectives.
  • Lead GPP Leadership Team Priorities meetings, bi-weekly Strategy meetings, and All People Meetings.
  • Lead GPP Engagement Committee and serve as "chief engagement officer," driving efforts to build GPP culture and ensure best-in-class workplace environment.
  • Help shape strategic policy priorities and supporting advocacy and narratives; utilize knowledge of GPP and the policymaking process to advance cross-cutting GM and GPP objectives. Emphasis placed on collaboration with GM Communications teams and other external facing functions.
  • Drive coordination across GPP teams and GM functions, ensuring that issues are handled in a coordinated manner, align with business goals, and are supported by appropriate GM teams and resources.
  • Serve as a key communications channel between GPP and GM Senior Leadership, ensuring senior executives are educated on key policy developments and prepared to engage with government officials to advance enterprise priorities.
  • Manage and mentor a small, high-performing staff supporting the Global Public Policy office, ensuring clarity of roles, alignment with strategic priorities, and professional development across the team.

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Economics or other Policy related areas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated history of exceptional judgement and discretion
  • Understanding of GPP and GM functions/structure
  • Ability to successfully work with various leadership styles to advance objectives
  • Ability to coordinate across geographically diverse groups
  • Ability to distill complex information into executive level communications to aid quick decision making.
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced, dynamic situations
  • Expertise with Microsoft Tools
  • Demonstrated experience with communication to Senior Executive Stakeholders

  • Master's degree
