Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
This is an automotive assembly plant, product and manufacturing processes. We strive for excellence in developing and sustaining the manufacturing enablers to quickly bring to market the best automotive products to date. The products being built at Orion Assembly are highly desired and have a large demand.
The Facilities Mechanical/Civil Engineer will lead the development of project criteria and scope, while providing technical guidance on engineering, construction, and maintenance activities. Responsibilities include but not limited to systems such as HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, tank farms, and energy conservation initiatives.
What You'll Do:
- Direct and supervise engineering firms for compliance with project scope of requirements.
- Provide technical consultation, including analyzing facility mechanical system problems in the field, and recommend solutions.
- Provide code and regulatory analysis and interpretation for the plant.
- Technical resource to facility maintenance for all projects and a domain expert on facility technologies and processes.
- Supervise physical condition of facilities: buildings, roads, grounds, architectural structure.
- Develop, implement and operate programs and projects including environmental utilities and decommissioning.
- Handle and maintain construction drawings, layouts, and architectural drawings.
- Lead Safety Contractor Management for specific projects
- NPP (Non-Portfolio Project) submittal and project management
- PDPM (Project Delivery Program Management) administration and management
- Infrastructure Planning and Budgeting
- Regulatory Compliance
- They ensure that construction and maintenance projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations. This includes adherence to licensing requirements for contractors and permits for land use, environmental impact, and public safety
- Permits and Licensing coordination with city departments to obtain necessary permits for construction projects. This includes building permits, environmental permits, and utility access licenses.
- Strategic Decision-Making
- Routine municipal decision-making, such as evaluating the financial impact of infrastructure investments or maintenance deferrals. These decisions can influence tax rates or the allocation of tax revenue
- Asset Management
- Civil engineers assist in managing municipal assets like water systems and roads. Proper asset management helps avoid costly emergency repairs, which can affect city budgets and tax planning.
- Public Communication and Justification
- They may be involved in presenting technical justifications for tax-funded projects to city councils or the public, helping build support for necessary infrastructure investments.
- Coordinating with city departments to secure required permits and licenses for construction projects, including building, environmental, and utility access permits, ensuring full regulatory compliance

Required Qualifications:
- BS in engineering or equivalent experience
- Facility mechanical systems engineering design experience, HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, and mechanical piping systems. Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems building design codes and specifications.
- 5+ years of related experience in similar role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience Coordinating with city departments to secure required permits and licenses for construction projects, including building, environmental, and utility access permits, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
