Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.

The Role:

Coordinate various ergonomics and industrial engineering activities within an assigned area. This role requires substantial independent judgment in complex or unusual situations while working under the general direction of a supervisor. The work is technical and challenging, involving considerable perception and initiative to make informed decisions.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct ergonomics job evaluations and review daily medical logs, initiating Quick Response Process (QRP) forms when required.
  • Evaluate all QRP forms and complete the job evaluation section on the form.
  • Properly document all QRPs in the Technical Ergonomics Database (TED).
  • Close appropriate jobs and document them accurately in TED.
  • Perform job analyses and track corrective actions.
  • Open jobs for correction in TED based on the results of the RFC and the use of secondary analysis tools, when indicated.
  • Provide recommendations for corrective actions based on job analysis and document them properly in TED.
  • Participate in reviews of anticipated equipment and/or processes with the shop committee and health and safety committee.
  • Travel to vendors, plants, or other locations to conduct job analyses and monitor corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Make recommendations to improve new equipment and/or processes.
  • Consult with the Plant Safety Board Administrator regarding the "Red Tag" process for the release of machinery, equipment, or processes to production.
  • Open a job in TED when equipment is released to production prior to the completion of a required ergonomics correction.
  • Review delayed ergonomics corrections on new equipment as completed, close appropriate jobs, and document them properly in TED.
  • Inform management and union representatives of ergonomics-related activities in their areas as appropriate.
  • Confirm that affected employees have been informed and instructed on ergonomics modifications.
  • Work closely with the local joint health and safety committee regarding ergonomics and safety issues.
  • Investigate ergonomics-related medical visits.
  • Report monthly to the plant safety review board (PSRB) and keep minutes specific to ergonomics-related items.
  • Collaborate with GM health services on items such as QRPs and medical walkthroughs.
  • Participate in all required ergonomics, health, and safety-related training.
  • Coordinate input from internal and external customers to better understand their needs and perceptions.

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Required Degree: Industrial Engineering or Business Management degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in IE/Ergonomics roles, program/platform manufacturing, and plant manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of ergonomics skills and techniques.
  • High level of analytical ability to solve unusual and difficult problems.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of work measurement techniques, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners, motivate employees, and elicit work output.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of GMS principles and experience in GMS implementation
  • Knowledge of Global Launch Process
  • Knowledge of and experience in Assembly Processing Systems (APS)
