Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Milford, MI) three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

The Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) Build Factory department provides shared services to support development and delivery of our key embedded controls. Our responsibilities include architecture for software, quality, and safety design, as well as process leadership, quality assurance, software Integration, and release. We are a highly capable engineering team that focuses on delivering customer value with safety and quality at top of mind; and we always continue to grow, innovate & excel.

We are looking for an Engineering Group Manager in the Software Integration and Quality Assurance area. These teams support products across many mechatronic domains (Engine, Transmission, Vehicle Dynamics, Battery Systems, Electrified Propulsion, Thermal, and Body controls) and will work with the Product teams, Deploy teams and Suppliers to help ensure Software Integration and Quality meets program milestone timing.

In this people leader role, as well as having responsibilities for Software Integration and Quality Assurance, you will help develop and lead strategic action plans to support business goals for our future as we reinvent ourselves from auto manufacturer to a tech company!

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Manage an engineering team to Build, Integrate, Deploy and Test Embedded Controls Software
  • Empower and Enable team to deliver first-time-quality within an Agile framework
  • Guide and ensure team's compliance to applicable business processes such as Behavior Driven Development and Built-In Quality methodologies, as well as adherence to documented ISO processes
  • Increase the team's knowledge base so common software errors, corner case situations and other learnings can be retained and shared for the future
  • Proactively collaborate with all involved stakeholders and prioritize work, as needed
  • Consult with Technical Experts to remove roadblocks for time-sensitive needs
  • Foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics and relentless improvement
  • Mentor, coach, and develop employees and their careers
  • Establish and monitor budget and resource planning for required activities
  • Model and foster GM's Core Values and Winning Behaviors

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering to include Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, and Systems Engineering
  • Minimum 7+ years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems, calibration, and/or related hardware
  • Minimum 3 years of Integration, Build, Testing and Quality Assurance experience for embedded controls design and development
  • Demonstrated results in successful project execution
  • Excellent multi-functional communication and leadership skills - able to get multiple teams moving in the same direction
  • Demonstrated ability to "Deal with Ambiguity" while driving timely decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to "Speak Fearlessly" and "Win with Integrity" when considering factors for launch readiness

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master of Science in Engineering and/or Master of Business Administration
  • 10+ years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems, calibration, and/or related hardware
  • Leadership experience of teams of engineers responsible for developing or testing embedded control systems or related hardware
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results through effective teamwork, lead numerous projects with different focal areas to successful completion, and manage and measure work through metrics, data, and results
  • Prior experience in propulsion or vehicle dynamics domains
