The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Engineering Group Manager to lead the development and execution of exterior components-including bumpers, grilles, fascias, and exterior trim systems-across multiple vehicle platforms. This role is responsible for managing a high-performing team of engineers while driving technical excellence, program delivery, validation, quality, and innovation.

- Lead and mentor a team of exterior Design Release Engineers.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and innovative engineering culture focused on continuous improvement and technical growth.
- Oversee staffing, performance reviews, and career development planning.

Program Execution
- Manage the full lifecycle of bumper, grille, fascia, and exterior trim components from concept through production launch.
- Ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, cost, weight, and manufacturability targets.
- Resolve technical issues and ensure timely delivery of engineering milestones.
- Drive team performance to meet program and organizational KPIs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Design Studio, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and Vehicle Architecture teams to ensure seamless integration of exterior components.
- Act as the primary engineering interface for suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Support sourcing decisions and supplier technical reviews.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all components meet regulatory, safety, and durability standards.
- Monitor field performance and warranty data to drive continuous improvement.
- Champion robust validation plans and DFMEA/PFMEA processes.
Innovation & Strategy
- Promote a culture of innovation focused on delivering the most efficient engineering solutions in the industry.
- Encourage the use of lightweight materials, sustainable solutions, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
- Stay informed on industry trends and competitive benchmarks.
Budget & Reporting
- Manage engineering budgets including personnel, design and development, and travel.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on program status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Support long-range planning and strategic staffing decisions.
What You'll Need (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in automotive engineering.
- Proven track record of successful program execution and team leadership.
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and vehicle integration.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple programs in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective collaboration across all organizational levels, including senior leadership.
- High initiative and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and enable timely decision-making.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's degree in engineering or related field.
- Experience with global vehicle programs and supplier management.
- Proficiency in CAD tools and CAE analysis.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and validation protocols.
- Deep understanding of vehicle component and subsystem development/release processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships across internal and external teams.
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
The selected candidate will be required to travel < 25% for this role.
This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
