Hybrid

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business ].

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

The Role

This leadership role will be responsible for managing a medium sized group of engineers or technical employees within the Active Thermal space. Active Thermal includes, but is not limited to Heat Exchanges, Fans, Compressors, and various Thermal Modules. Role will provide technical leadership and guide the team to successful execution of Internal Combustion, Electrical, and Hybrid Vehicles. This role will require you to interface with various organizations within the company such as Advanced Engineering, Systems Engineering, Vehicle Development, Program Management, Software & Services, Purchasing, etc.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Leads and manages a technical team to deliver engineering outputs aligned with business objectives and the Vehicle Development Process.
  • Oversees execution, tracks progress, removes roadblocks, and escalates issues as needed.
  • Provides technical leadership and collaborates cross-functionally across teams.
  • Reviews and approves engineering documentation (e.g., ECRs, SORs, Timing Plans).
  • Drives staffing initiatives and manages team workload, priorities, and schedules.
  • Conducts regular team meetings and communicates GM policies, procedures, and leadership messages.
  • Develops and shares vision and strategy through presentations and meetings.
  • Ensures completion of mandatory and role-specific training.
  • Supports employee career development and provides ongoing feedback and recognition.
  • Evaluates performance, addresses issues, and participates in compensation planning.
  • Manages team budget and administrative approvals (e.g., expenses, schedules).

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • 8+ years of engineering experience (Release, Development, Quality or other)
  • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Strong focus on program management, metrics, data and results.
  • Leadership skills as well as demonstrated leadership in working with global teams
  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and managing ambiguity
  • Proficient in understanding product design/release and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with core engineering systems (Auros, PRTS, TrackerGART, FIT/FMEA+, etc.)

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of engineering experience (Release, Development, Quality or other)
  • 5+ years of thermal experience
  • 2+ years of demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Experience with hybrid team environments and working across global teams.
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification
