Position Summary
The Director, Buick & GMC Community Communications is a recognized expert responsible for leading enterprise-level community engagement strategies that connect GM brands with influential cultural and lifestyle audiences. This role applies deep subject matter expertise, strategic foresight, and cross-functional leadership to shape Buick and GMC's presence in key communities and drive brand relevance.
We are seeking an exceptional communications leader to reimagine how two of GM's most distinctive brands - Buick and GMC - show up in the world and with targeted communities.
This is not a traditional PR role. We want a trailblazer who can lead bold, creative, earned-first thinking and bring fresh approaches to building our brands - particularly next-generation EVs - and creating enduring cultural relevance among new and existing communities.

The Director will serve as a trusted advisor to senior brand and GM leadership, providing strategic counsel and executive communications support. They will work in close partnership with colleagues across the enterprise - including Technology Communications, Editorial, Corporate Communications, Marketing, Sales and the brand business teams - to ensure that Buick and GMC communications deliver breakthrough work that supports broader GM storytelling and business objectives.
Operating with broad autonomy, the Director will ultimately lead high-impact initiatives, mentors others, and contribute directly to the execution of the brands and GM's strategic priorities through innovative, community-driven storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of enterprise-level community engagement strategies aligned with GMC and Buick's brand and business goals.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on cultural trends, community dynamics, and brand storytelling.
- Lead the identification and nurturing of targeted and strategic Buick GMC communities that connect with, and elevate, the brands.
- Design and implement innovative engagement campaigns that span digital, experiential, and earned media channels, connecting deeply with the communities that Buick and GMC are targeting.
- Collaborate across functions and regions to integrate community insights into product launches, brand campaigns, and corporate initiatives.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with cultural leaders, influencers, and community partners.
- Use advanced analytics and insights to evaluate impact and optimize engagement strategies.
- Drive change by proposing and implementing new methods, systems, and policies that enhance community connection and brand equity.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level team members, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders through compelling narratives and strategic counsel.
- Lead large-scale projects with broad visibility and measurable contributions to GM's functional and enterprise outcomes.
Qualifications
- 8-10+ years of experience in brand communications, cultural marketing, or community engagement.
- Recognized experience connecting with communities in elevated adventure space, premium and high-end outdoors, sports and communications with a portfolio of high-impact work (GMC).
- Recognized experience connecting with creative and artistic communities with a specific and sophisticated design sensibility (Buick).
- Proven success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with enterprise-level impact.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a complex environment and influence across functions.
- Experience mentoring others and contributing to team development and performance.
- Strong business acumen and ability to translate insights into action.
This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Mountain View, or Warren, you are expected to report to that location three times a week at minimum.
