Cost Engineer
Description
DUTIES:
Develop, grow, and continuously improve cost knowledge and cost modeling tools to enable confident and consistent ground up should cost estimating of materials, vendor tooling and ED&D for assigned components and sub-systems. Understand the range of GM and competitor design solutions for assigned components to understand options and cost implications. Leverage expertise of manufacturing processes, cost knowledge, and cost model tools to develop timely estimates and compelling cost insights to support new vehicle program teams in developing business cases, establishing targeted costs, and improving profitability. Evaluate supplier quotes vs. estimated costs (sourcings, engineering changes, etc.), to extract pertinent insights on gaps and support Purchasing to drive data driven negotiations with suppliers to close gaps and achieve best costs. Identify, advocate, and support pursuit of savings opportunities both designing out cost/VAVE and addressing commercial gaps (current and future business). Strengthen cross-functional collaboration with Purchasing and Engineering partners. Work on special projects and assignments as required or where opportunities exist to improve cost results for GM or to improve process effectiveness and efficiency. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-office, 2 days remote - Must be able to report to local office.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or related field of study and 3 years of experience as a Cost Engineer, Launch Engineer, Product Engineer, or related role. Three years of experience with: Activity Based Costing including material piece cost, ED&D and tooling from design math and "black box" physical sample tear down; ManufacturingProcess experience including injection molding, stamping, brazing, aluminum extrusion, SMT/electronics, machining and general assembly for high volume automotive componentapplications; Automotive Component experience including Powertrain Cooling (condenser, radiator, engine cooling fans) and BEV Heat (integrated refrigerant modules, high voltageheaters, valves); Automotive Tier 1 Supplier Quote Analysis; Commercial Negotiations including material piece cost, ED&D and tooling with international Tier 1 automotive component suppliers; Design to Cost/VAVE, Cost Optimization, and Benchmarking; and Data Analytics.
