Work Arrangement
Onsite - This position requires the employee to be onsite five days a week. Primary work location will be the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.
This position has the potential to require domestic travel of up to 25%.
The Role
This position is a unique opportunity to influence the way we as General Motors operates in our assembly plants. Key deliverable as the Automation Zone Material Lead would be to manage the team in developing and executing all phases of Lean Material Systems to create the most efficient, leanest designs for the entire GM Enterprise. This individual will work with all levels of a cross functional team to drive CIP, support launch execution & steady state improvements, and drive established best practices.
Work as One Team with VS Material & LMS Execution Team to create a plan for every site to include the most advanced integrated material strategies and equipment. Incorporate the Material & LMS Launch initiatives. Develop / understand long-term Material & LMS Vision for the plant. Lead, plan and support execution of all Plant Lean Material Strategies including material flow, material routings, storage space requirements, mobile equipment, layout development, storage areas, kitting, small lot strategy, sequence planning, PFEP, etc.

What You'll Do
- Implement standardize material flow and material handling processes and measure plant compliance during the GVDP launch phases of execution.
- Drive Material Planning Metrics (DPP & DPPN) to be applied in North America.
- Utilize PFEP to develop efficient Material Route Planning (GMOS), Dock Strategies, Material Flow.
- Develop & track to Master Dot milestones & Deliverables
- Drive & execute common standards, processes, and lean designs.
- Integrate Lean Manufacturing and GM-Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles
- Optimize floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment.
- Facilities design, layout, and processes that reduce cost/ achieve operational efficiencies.
- Ensure Plant Launch is executed at Benchmark levels.
- Drive implementation of best practices and standardized performance metrics across all GA assembly operations.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Manufacturing & Engineering Expertise: 7+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, Packaging, and/or Industrial Engineering, with deep knowledge of core practices and processes across these domains.
- Project Execution: Proven ability to lead and deliver complex manufacturing projects, such as equipment installation and construction, within fast-paced environments.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of processing equipment, throughput optimization, and overall manufacturing processes. Familiarity with work measurement standards, ergonomic design, material flow optimization, complex launches, and facility layout is strongly preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing: Solid knowledge of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies, with a track record of improving efficiency and reducing waste.
- Safety Leadership: Strong awareness of safety standards and best practices to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- High-Volume Manufacturing: Experience in high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environments, with a focus on equipment reliability, maintainability, and throughput performance.
- AutoCAD & Digital Tools: Proficiency in AutoCAD, FactoryCAD, or equivalent design software.
- Advanced Education: Master's degree in Engineering (Materials, Packaging, or Industrial).
