Automated Driving & Robotics Engineer - GM Defense

The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated & dynamic engineer with demonstrated Autonomy and/or Robotics knowledge to be in the forefront of
expanding GM's automated driving offerings to new realms relevant to GM Defense. The scope of work includes expanding GM's automated
driving technology with autonomous follower, teleoperation, and off-road autonomous driving capability to meet civilian, military and other
government agency needs.
You will get to work with development vehicles, simulators, state-of-the-art sensors, and software, while adapting and enhancing solutions for
specialized vehicles.
What You'll Do
- Develop requirements, use cases, and performance evaluation metrics for AV systems
- Develop and enhance algorithms for perception, sensor fusion, localization, situation awareness, and path planning for automated driving
- Interface, collaborate, and partner with GM organizations to leverage existing capabilities and resources (Software Defined Vehicle, Super Cruise, Advanced Development, R&D, etc.)
- Adapt, enhance, integrate, and test software and hardware for automated vehicles
- Create software and hardware properties to demonstrate GMD autonomy and robotics solutions
- Follow agile/scrum software development and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery processes as needed
- Organize issues, interpret strategies, and effectively communicate to team members and management to facilitate timely decisions
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or similar area of focus
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant, fulltime work experience
- Design, development, or research engineering experience
- Automated driving and/or robotics development experience:
- Knowledge of perception (e.g., object detection, and tracking), sensor fusion (e.g., Kalman filter, particle filter), localization (e.g., SLAM), situation assessment, path planning and control algorithms
- Experience working with different AV sensors, such as LiDAR and Camera sensors.
- Knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics simulation tools and AV/ADAS simulation tools such as CarMaker, CarSim, Vires VTD, Carla, Gazebo etc.
- Programming knowledge: C++, Python and/or Matlab/Simulink
- Experience developing/integrating robotic applications
- Strong software development skills for safety critical, real-time applications
- Demonstrated ability to identify issues early and drive timely resolution

What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's degree or PhD (EE, ME, AE, Computer Science, Physics, Math or similar area of focus)
- Experience working with ROS/ROS2
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Knowledge of system safety and Development Vehicle Use Level approval processes
- Experience developing automated driving or active safety features and integrating them into vehicles

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.

This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.
