ADAS System Safety Engineer

Description

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role

In this role you will utilize systems level thinking and work across the engineering organizations to conduct System Safety works from defining Safety goals and Concept analysis, to deliver requirements to all responsible components, decomposition to SW and related HW, then finish validation to close Safety Case.

The successful candidate will be responsible and lead to deliver safety cases of all cameras, IMU, RVC used for ADAS features by following GM System Safety Process. This role is critical in achieving GM's path to Zero Crashes, Zero, Emissions, and Zero Congestion.

We are looking for a highly energetic and creative thinker who can lead this System Safety work and grow our approach with innovation to achieve ADAS future.

What You'll Do

  • Drive systems safety analysis, hazard identification, and risk mitigation efforts using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Decompose the top-level system functions, and behaviors into a set of safety requirements that detail expected end-to-end system behavior to implement a holistic safety strategy
  • Work closely with DRE, feature SSE, suppliers, feature owner and system teams to support sourcing, defining clear requirements to cameras and deliver all safety products per GVDP milestones
  • Support definition of the validation & verification plan for safety requirements that evaluates the end-to-end implementation of the function
  • Coach cross-functional teams on safety critical system and process-specific knowledge, consulting Senior System Safety engineers as needed.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelors of Science degree Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related area of expertise
  • 5 years of post-graduation industry engineering experience in systems safety, systems engineering, software engineering, development or other related fields
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems
  • Basic knowledge of Semiconductor and SoC (System on Chip)
  • Strong technical leadership skills and an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills and strong project management skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and has an ability for problem solving
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues locally and at remote sites
  • Ability to travel as needed (5-10% max) domestic

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science
  • DFSS Black Belt certification
