Senior Director, Network Software Engineering

Position Overview:

GEICO is seeking a technical and strategic Senior Director of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) to lead our organization's efforts in designing, implementing, and managing cutting-edge SDN solutions. As the Director of SDN, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our network architecture, driving innovation, and optimizing network performance to meet our evolving business needs. The current goal within the infrastructure organization is completely rebuilding the network capability from the ground up by utilizing SDN technologies such as SONiC and DENT.

Your expertise in SDN technologies, leadership acumen, and ability to collaborate across teams will be instrumental in driving the success of our network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop a comprehensive SDN strategy aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Drive innovation by staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in SDN.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the long-term vision for the SDN department and its contributions to overall business success.
Network Architecture Design:
  • Lead the design and architecture of SDN solutions that ensure scalability, flexibility, and adaptability to changing business requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate SDN solutions seamlessly into an existing network infrastructure.
  • Define and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices for SDN implementation.
SDN Implementation and Management:
  • Oversee the implementation and deployment of SDN solutions across the organization's network infrastructure.
  • Manage the configuration, provisioning, and orchestration of network resources using SDN technologies.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize SDN configurations for optimal efficiency.
Team Leadership and Development:
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of network engineers and architects specialized in SDN.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Vendor Relationships and Partnerships:
  • Evaluate and establish relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and partners to source SDN solutions, tools, and services.
  • Negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and ensure effective communication to support SDN initiatives.
Risk Management and Security:
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to integrate robust security measures into SDN solutions, ensuring network integrity and data protection.
  • Identify potential risks, vulnerabilities, and compliance issues related to SDN implementations and develop mitigation strategies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and managing SDN solutions in complex enterprise environments.
  • Deep expertise with SONiC or other open-source network operating systems.
  • Experience building network for hybrid cloud environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire technical teams.
  • In-depth understanding of SDN concepts, protocols (e.g., OpenFlow, BGP), and virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with SDN controllers and orchestrators (e.g., OpenDaylight, ONOS, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, network automation, and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Annual Salary
$195,000.00 - $315,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
