Principal Engineer - (Design Services/Java/Python/PostgreSQL) - (REMOTE)

Are you passionate about technical leadership and building services for entire enterprises ? Then look no further, GEICO is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to build a Data analytics platform to optimize infrastructure usage across the company. In this role, you will lead an engineering effort to build highly scalable and real time decision platform for consumers to analyze, evaluate, strategize infrastructure usage, and recommend best offerings to manage application workloads with optimized utilization . This is an opportunity to offer state of the art experience to end users through operational excellence.

Our Principal Engineer works with our Distinguished engineer and Sr. engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems as well as identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead Strategy and Execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in building data analytics platforms, preferably using Open -Source technologies .

Position Responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer, you will:
  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems.
  • Develop and execute technical software development strategy for the data analytics platform covering security, ingestion practices, real time decisioning & visualization.
  • Accountable for the quality, usability & performance of the solutions.
  • Deep hands-on experience in complex system design and data pipeline and architectures, scale and performance, tuning, with good knowledge on Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Fluent at least two OOP languages among Java, Go, python, C++, etc.
  • Good knowledge of two of the following languages: C, PHP, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, shell script, etc.
  • Understanding open-source databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc. , familiar with No-SQL databases like Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch; knowledge with NewSQL database like TIDB, Cockroach or YugabyteDB will be a plus.
  • Be a role model and mentor, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and knowledge of our engineering and product community. Influence and educate executives.
  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
  • Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans.
  • Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, demonstrate adaptability and sponsor continuous learning.
  • Willing to take on-call and operational support .
Qualifications:
  • Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap.
  • Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production.
  • Track-record of publications history in credible conferences and journals.
  • Practical knowledge of working in Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban/ SAFe ).
  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, test automation and related tools, operations, real-time communication).
  • Experience on open-source database platforms with emphasis on building enterprise scale RDMS and NoSQL platforms
  • Knowledge in big data and streaming data architecture (Lambda/Kappa ), K 8 cluster and ETL pipeline
  • Knowledge in ML and AI technologies
  • Experience in CI/CD pipeline and related open-source tools like GIT/Jenkin/ CircleCI /SonarQube knowledge in Terraform/Ansible will be big plus
  • Knowledge on Open-source monitoring software like Grafana and Prometheus
Experience:
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience
  • 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
  • 1+ years of people management experience
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science , Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary
$100,000.00 - $204,500.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
