Position Description:
Our Distinguished Engineer will work with key organizational leaders and product owners to identify opportunities and drive technical vision of this SRE organization. They will be responsible for technical roadmap and strategies with strong focus to drive operational excellence, improve performance and efficiency of both our application workload and infrastructure. These long-term strategies will have huge impact across all products and platforms in Geico. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge experience to improve application's performance, capacity benchmarking, improve availability and reliability, design and evolve cloud/infrastructure architecture, and leverage engineering solutions to solve operational problems.
Position Responsibilities:
As a Distinguished Engineer, you will:
• Be a Strong thought leader in the Site Reliability Engineering, Performance Engineering and Capacity management space
• Work across Engineering leadership to build relationships with other teams and use their feedback and understand their goals to build and prioritize a strategy and roadmap for your team, and for products that may span multiple teams
• Build operational excellence roadmaps, drive adoption of best practices from design to delivery, and improve performance and efficiency of products and infrastructure
• Propose new design and develop solutions to solve complex problems in application resiliency and availability
• Define and build the next generation of reliability, performance debugging tools and inspire others to do the same
• Have technical experience in Capacity benchmarking, application profiling and tuning through open-source technologies.
• Take data driven approach to make decision around capacity needs, application availability and reliability.
• Leverage your deep and broad technical expertise to mentor engineers and provide leadership on resolving complex technology issues
• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
• Have Strong problem-solving skills
Qualifications:
• Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
• Strong understanding on service level objective (SLO's) and Service level indicators (SLIs)
• Fluency and Specialization with any one of the programming languages such as Java, Python or C#
• Strong understanding of compute resources and hardware profiles both in private and public cloud.
• Expert in Container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes), container runtimes and optimization
• Fluency in DevOps Concepts (continuous delivery and infrastructure as code) and Cloud Architecture
• Experience in application monitoring tools and profiling tools (e.g. CPU, Memory profiling tools)
• In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
Experience:
• 8 + years of experience with architecture and design
• 10+ years of professional SRE experience
• 4 + years of experience with one of the public cloud - AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
• 6 + years of experience in open-source frameworks - capacity modeling/benchmarking, application performance benchmarking, auto-recovery/auto-remediation tools
• 3+ years of people management e xperience
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
