Counsel II

GEICO is looking for an Insurance Regulatory Counsel member. The Insurance Regulatory Counsel role provides legal and regulatory advice to GEICO's various insurance lines and its business units, including sales, underwriting, claims, product management & insurance compliance teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Counsel and educate business leadership on a wide range of insurance regulatory matters.
  • Effectively collaborate with all disciplines within the legal organization, including compliance, office of general counsel, government affairs, claims and product line support services, to provide informed regulatory advice.
  • Research and draft memoranda on relevant insurance legal and regulatory issues.
  • Analyze legislative and regulatory developments across the company's lines of business.
  • Advise on regulatory matters pertaining to different insurance products and lines of business, including issues relating to product development and design.
  • Advise on the creation and implementation of compliance policy positions working closely with compliance teams.
  • Collaborate with and support internal clients on insurance regulatory examinations, investigations, and other regulatory inquiries.
  • Effectively represent the company in its direct engagements with regulators on filing inquires, regulatory investigations and market conduct examinations.
  • Special projects as assigned.

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school - REQUIRED
  • Bar Admission to practice law and in good standing in at least one state - REQUIRED
  • 5 to 10 years of legal experience with insurance regulatory legal matters, preferably in a law firm, corporation, or insurance department.
  • Auto insurance experience preferred.
  • Strong research skills and knowledge and expertise regarding state laws and regulations applicable to insurance.
  • Experience dealing with insurance department exams and inquiries along with positive history of engagement with regulators.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Analytical acumen on legal and regulatory matters as well as on business issues.
  • Experience with business counseling, including the ability to advise on complex issues to business professionals at every level of the organization.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, dynamic environment; ability to work independently with minimal supervision of day-to-day tasks while also appropriately identifying matters requiring escalation to management; strong service-oriented disposition, including the ability to multi-task.
Location: Is flexible but may include 2-3 days working in local office. Open to Remote candidates.

Annual Salary
$132,000.00 - $230,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
