Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross - functional engineering discipline centered on approach, mindset and processes. All activities consider both business and technical needs of customer with the goal of providing a quality product that meets user needs.
Staff Model Engineer in the Advanced Turboprop Program Systems Engineering team will lead technical projects for Engineering in support of the NPI design maturation & take ownership of multiple development engine throughout its life cycle in support of certification of the GE Catalyst. In this role you will report to the Systems Model Leader & work with the Systems Module /Technical Requirements /Test & Certification /SPOCT leaders &design groups across Avio Aero, EDC, GEAC and TTC to ensure the Catalyst engine models meet overall customer CTQ's and program requirements.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role you will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad program objectives. In this role, you will integrate and develop processes that meet GE Catalyst program needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall strategy needed to develop, test and certify the ATP engine.

You will:

  • Lead or support, with limited guidance, ATP development testing and certification initiatives such as owning planning and preparation efforts for certification test engines and leading associated development engines through its NPI life cycle, support engine assembly and instrumentation, and test execution phases.
  • Manage overall product configuration and configuration control system in cooperation with CCB.
  • Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing.
  • Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams. Manages interface between components and execution organizations.
  • Support weekly systems technical reviews and lead dedicated vehicle technical review.
  • Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements & Leverage expertise to resolve problems during all phases of the ATP NPI development program
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Take new perspective on existing solutions. Use technical experience and data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external resources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Explain difficult or sensitive information; work to build consensus.
  • Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems encountered during the NPI development of the ATP.
  • Drive Development problem reports to resolution in support of assembly and testing, drive permanent / long term fixes implementation.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments to SLT members and broader team

Required Qualifications

  • This role requires experience (preferably 8+ years) in the Engineering/Technology & Systems Engineering.
  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or University.
  • Previous proven experience in mechanical design experience on jet engine or gas turbine turbomachinery components
  • Previous proven experience in driving engine sub-components through NPI development process.

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous proven experience in driving engine modules through NPI development process
  • NPI assembly, testing and certification experience
  • Experience working MRB, cost reduction, producibility / quality improvement, engine assembly and NPI certification testing projects
  • Highly motivated, self-directed individual comfortable working with Engineering and Supply Chain focals.
  • Ability to guide and influence others
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
  • Have exemplary written and verbal communication skills
