Job Description Summary
The Lead Design Engineer position is a mid career 'hardware owning' engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within the Aerospace Engineering
Division's Production Technologies team. As a hardware owner you will own all engineering functions related to the production of assigned Commercial, Aero-derivative High pressure Turbine Airfoils.
In this role, you will be on the front lines of a new organization that is dedicated to improving the producibility of HPT airfoils, enhancing the Engineering-Supply chain relationship, while using SQDC to dramatically improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers' expectations.
Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes, on-going manufacturing support, and strategic
improvements across Castings, Machining, and Coatings for turbine airfoils.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
- Hardware ownership and projects supporting high pressure turbine nozzle airfoils.
- Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines, manufacturing & quality, and regularly exposed to commodity and
industry experts all while promoting open and honest dialogue. - At least twice a year, with opportunities for more frequent, travel to manufacturing sites to gain practical knowledge of manufacturing.
- Execute the engineering analysis and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles to improve manufacturability and technical robustness of assigned components.
- Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodology to recommend improvements.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of engineering & manufacturing, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute on technically complex projects to meet technical requirements and business goals under mentorship of senior engineers.
- Provide support to repair development, producibility improvements, hardware delivery and vendor qualifications.
- Lead technical projects with moderate to high complexity through collaboration with field and industry experts.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Aerospace/Aviation design engineering

Desired Characteristics
- Previous experience in manufacturing, especially of Aerospace components.
- Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.
- Experience with Ansys and Unigraphics.
- Certification in ASME Y14 or practical experience with GD&T.
- Interest in being a self-starter with a passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Established project management skills.
