Job Description: As a Mechanical Engineer within our Platform Hardware organization, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing avionics products that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will utilize your technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and lean mindset to drive key business objectives and exceed customer expectations. This position offers the flexibility of working either in Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL and is bonus eligible.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design, interconnect evaluations, component selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis for avionics products.
  • Create detailed mechanical models, drawings, and bills of material.
  • Conduct thermal, stress, and vibration analyses to ensure product compliance with environmental and operational requirements, and provide technical reports.
  • Lead design and work-product reviews, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives and design architectural trade studies.
  • Provide technical support to the production factory for root cause investigations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance department efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or other protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act) due to access to export-controlled technology.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in packaging design for electronics assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Proficiency in model and drawing creation using Siemens NX.
  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management systems (PTC Windchill).
  • Experience in vibration and thermal analysis using FEA tools.
  • Knowledge of aerospace standards, materials, and processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement mindset.
