As Environmental Global Lead, you will take responsibility for developing and implementing a world-wide environmental compliance and environmental sustainability strategy that addresses the changing market regulatory complexities across the global marketplace and specifically for the twenty-two countries in which Garrett operates. The strategy must also embed best practices and robust governance and monitoring mechanisms/metrics to complement the existing, company-wide Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system.

The Environment Leader is a key member of the HSE team and will empower and develop a team of product stewards, environmental sustainability specialists, and site-based HSE leaders to ensure Garrett's environmental responsibilities and objectives are delivered. You will be proactive in providing strategic and technical guidance to business and technology executives within the group regarding product risk assessment and international regulatory requirements impacting Garrett products and services and ultimately embedding a culture of sustainability throughout the company.

You will report to the Global HSE Director, and work in close partnership with our Director for Corporate Communications and Sustainability Development to develop a strategy that ensures compliance and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • In close collaboration with corporate management, benchmark, develop and propose an impactful environmental and sustainability roadmap in terms of energy & GHG emission (scope 1, 2, 3), waste, and water
  • Drive execution and mitigation plan of the approved strategy
    • targets setting (energy, CHG, waste, water) for scope 1&2 as well as scope 3
    • target achievement strategy
    • specific projects deployment in coordination with business functions (finance, ISC/Procurement, legal)
    • oversight and reviews to measure effectiveness of the various initiatives to meet targets
    • related risk mitigation and course corrections
  • Drive overall environmental sustainability topics such as Energy management (ISO50001), Renewable energy strategies, CDP Climate & Water and Ecovadis compliance, GRI referencing, Waste & Waste Management
  • Coordinate all aspects of environmental compliance (pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, product stewardship and energy management) and lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices
  • Oversight and compliance of environmental risk in a manufacturing setting including all aspects of environmental permits and regulatory compliance
  • Ensuring that each Garrett business within the global group is operating in compliance with the latest environmental and sustainability regulations and legislation
  • Coordination of environmental, hydrogeological, remediation activities at a central level, managing specialist consultants and project teams
  • Develop and implement the environmental elements of the HSE management system, in conjunction with the Process Excellence Leader, to continually reduce the impact of the organization on the environment;
  • Establishing and maintaining clear lines of communication both internally within Garrett and externally with relevant local authorities, industry bodies, suppliers, customers and competent bodies as the go-to environmental and sustainability expert for the group
  • Collecting, analyzing and reporting environmental performance data to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies, including all necessary registrations and notifications as well as annual reports
  • Maintain a "HSE Regulatory Watch" to track new legislation in cooperation with wider HSE team members and promote and raise awareness, at all levels of an organization, of the impact of emerging environmental issues
  • Manage and direct a staff of Environmental and Product Stewardship Professionals

Qualifications/Experience/Capabilities

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in environmental science or relevant discipline
  • Solid experience in environmental, HSE or technical function within a complex and international corporate setting
  • Have a deep understanding and experience of environmental sustainability topics such as Energy management (ISO50001), Renewable energy strategies, CDP and Ecovadis compliance, GRI referencing, Waster & Waste Management
  • Experience in long term Environmental Target setting and involvement in Sustainability report process
  • Understanding of renewable energy ecosystem (RECs, PPAs, vPPAs)
  • Membership of relevant professional institution, e.g. IEMA or similar OR working towards
  • Experience with internal compliance audits (auditor qualifications desirable)
  • In addition to operational environmental aspects, must be knowledgeable about RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, Circular Economy and other leading Product Stewardship/Sustainability requirements
  • Preferred, direct experience of the manufacturing sector and its supply chains (ideally automotive) including an understanding of key automotive processes such as APQP and PPAP
  • Availability to spend periods of time (30%) away from home to visit and audit Garrett installations around the world
