We're seeking a passionate and insightful opinion writer to shape the conversation across multiple Michigan communities. As a vital member of our team, you'll be instrumental in driving local discourse and informing our readers on issues that matter most. You'll be based in Lansing, the state capital, but your topics will range across the state with special focus on the communities served by Gannett's Center for Community Journalism.
This role demands a journalist with a keen understanding of Michigan's diverse communities, a knack for storytelling, and a commitment to local journalism. You'll be writing opinion pieces that resonate with residents, exploring everything from local government to education, healthcare, and economic development.

Responsibilities:
- Write and edit regular opinion pieces for multiple Michigan-based media outlets, focusing on local government, education, healthcare, and economic development.
- Conduct thorough research to support your arguments and perspectives

- Engage with readers through social media and other platforms, fostering a forum for conversation, different perspectives, understanding, and civil discourse.
- Contribute to statewide political and policy discussions

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $51,300 and $120,750. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
